Fans finally have a release date of February 2027 to look forward to, with more updates and sneak peeks to follow in the months to come.
That said, the update wasn't all positive, with one cause for concern being the short episode count. After being in production for over three years, One Piece's Wit Studio remake will only release 7 episodes in 2027. After such a long wait, this number may seem disappointing at first glance. However, in truth, the remake's runtime isn't actually as short as it seems.
One Piece’s Remake Will Be as Long as a Typical Single Cour
Alongside the other updates, One Piece's Wit Studio remake also shockingly revealed that the series will have a total runtime of 300 minutes, and this small detail makes all the difference. This means that despite releasing only seven episodes, each episode of the remake will be around 42 minutes long, which is almost twice as long as normal anime episodes.

As such, if the remake had been restructured into typical 24-minute episodes, the series would have easily been as long as a single cour anime. In fact, with longer episodes and opening and ending credits not repeatedly taking up time, Wit Studio's One Piece remake might actually be able to cover more material.
In this sense, the remake might follow a narrative structure very similar to the live-action, adapting 7 chapters per episode. Most likely, each major story arc out of the first 50 chapters being adapted will be allotted an episode or two at most.
For early story arcs such as Romance Dawn, Orange Town, Syrup Village, and Baratie, one or two feature-length episodes is more than enough, and the Netflix live-action has proved as much. Of course, the only hope is that the remake doesn't cut characters and storylines completely like Season 1 of the One Piece live-action did with Chouchou.
Future Seasons of the One Piece Remake May Not Take as Long
More importantly, however, One Piece's remake definitely has more installments on the way. What's releasing in February 2027 has been dubbed the first season and while it did take its sweet time getting off the ground, future seasons will likely be released much faster, as is the case with many series.
