LIVE: Democrats Will Likely Control the House of Representatives

Will Democrats take control? Who knows. I don’t trust the polls.

Posted by Tuesday, November 3, 2026 at 06:00pm

Okay, all. I’ve compiled the critical House races that could flip the chamber to the Democrats.

I also included a section for Democratic Socialist of America-connected candidates running. These Democratic socialists will likely win, too.

The first polls close at 6 PM ET, but most on the East Coast close at 7 PM ET or 7:30 PM ET.

We had drama earlier today when the ballot machines in New York’s Westchester County wouldn’t take the ballots. Part of the county belongs to the 17th district, which is a critical race. So the ballots went into emergency bags, and they promise they will count them all.

North Carolina won’t report until later since the state will keep several polls open 45 minutes past the scheduled closing time due to technology issues.

Critical House Races

Florida 14th District: Democrat Castor Holds Her Seat

CPR: Toss-up

Candidates: Incumbent Rep. Kathy Castor (D) and Mike Beltran (D)

The redistricting in Florida failed in this case. Castor kept her seat.

Florida 22nd District: Democrat Pia Dandiya

CPR: Toss-up.

Open district. Candidates: Casey Askar (R) and Pia Dandiya (D).

Another redistricting fail.

Iowa 2nd District

Cook Political Rating (CPR): Toss-up.

This is an open district. Candidates: Lindsay James (D), Joe Mitchell (R), Rick Stewart (L), and Dave Bushaw (I).

Kentucky 6th District: Democrat Zach Dembo Wins

CPR: Toss-up.

Open district. Candidates: Ralph Alvarado (R), Zach Dembo (D), Pete Lynch (KY Party), Jay Bowman (I), Robert Quigley (I) (write-in).

Michigan 7th District

CPR: Toss-up.

Candidates: Incumbent Rep. Tom Barrett (R) and Will Lawrence (D).

*** IMPORTANT: This race is concerning because it’s not a solid Democrat district, and Lawrence was a member of DSA until July.

Yes, a DSA-aligned person could oust an incumbent Republican who has only been in office since January 3, 2025.

New York 17th District

CPR: Toss-up.

Candidates: Incumbent Rep. Mike Lawler (R) and Cait Conley (D).

North Carolina 1st District

CPR: Toss-up.

REMATCH! Incumbent Rep. Don Davis (D) and Laurie Buckhout (R).

Pennsylvania 7th District: Democrat Bob Brooks Flips Seat

CPR: Lean Democrat.

Candidates: Incumbent Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R) and Bob Brooks (D).

Pennsylvania 8th District: Democrat Paige Cognetti Flips Seat

CPR: Lean Democrat.

Candidates: Incumbent Rep. Rob Bresnahan (R) and Paige Cognetti (D).

Pennsylvania 10th District: Democrat Janelle Stelson Flips the Seat

CPR: Lean Democrat.

Candidates: Incumbent Rep. Scott Perry (R) and Janelle Stelson (D).

Texas 15th District

CPR: Toss-up.

Candidates: Incumbent Rep. Monica De La Cruz (R) and Bobby Pulido (D).

Virginia 1st District

CPR: Toss-up.

Candidates: Incumbent Rep. Robert Whitman (R) and Shannon Taylor (D)

Virginia 2nd District

CPR: Lean Democrat.

Candidates: Incumbent Rep. Jennifer Kiggans (R), Elaine Luria (D), J. Matt Baker (I), and Bishop Staten (I).

Virginia 5th District

CPR: Lean Republican.

Candidates: Incumbent Rep. John McGuire (R), Tom Perriello (D), Cooke Harvey (I), and Chris Register (I) (Write-in).

DSA Candidates

You’ll notice a pattern. They win their primaries and are running in solid Democratic districts.

California 7th District

California has a non-partisan primary. That’s why two Democrats are running in this solid Democratic district.

DSA-endorsed far-left candidate Mai Vang is running as a Democrat, attempting to unseat incumbent Doris Matsui (D).

Matsui has cause for concern because Vang won the primary by 2.1 points, 31.2% to 29.1%.

California 34th District

Incumbent Jimmy Gomez (D) will try to defend his seat against Democratic socialist Angela Gonzales-Torres.

Gomez looks likely to win, but he beat Gonzalez-Torres for the top spot in the primary by only 15.3 points, 46% to 30.7%.

Colorado 1st District: Democratic Socialist Melat Kiros Wins

Democratic socialist Melat Kiros is running as a Democrat after defeating incumbent Rep. Diana DeGette in the primary, who represented the district for 30 years.

She faces off against Republican Christy Peterson, but will likely win. CPR rated the district as solid Democrat.

Michigan 13th District: Democratic Socialist Donavan McKinney Wins Seat

Democratic socialist Donavan McKinney is running as a Democrat after beating incumbent Shri Thanedar in the primary.

He faces off against Republican Taras Nykoriak and independent candidates.

Guess what. MI-13 is a solid Democrat district.

New York 7th District: Democratic Socialist Claire Valdez Wins

Open seat. Incumbent Nydia Velázquez (D) chose to retire.

Democratic socialist Claire Valdez is running as a Democrat against Melvin Rivera (R/Conservative Party).

Oh, yeah. NY-7 is a solid Democrat district.

New York 13th District: Democratic Socialist Darializa Avila Chevalier Wins

Democratic socialist Darializa Avila Chevalier is running as a Democrat after ousting incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat in the primary.

She faces off against Republican Manual Williams, but will likely win. CPR has the district as a solid Democratic seat.

Pennsylvania 3rd District: Democratic Socialist Christopher Rabb Wins

The seat is open after incumbent Dwight Evans (D) retired.

Democratic socialist Chris Rabb is running as a Democrat. He faces off against Independent Dennis Mahoney.

Yes, it’s a solid Democrat district.
