NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 50-Series "Blackwell" gaming graphics cards are expected to see significant price adjustments this week. According to Chinese ChannelGate, add-in card (AIC) partners have confirmed that price hikes are scheduled due to the ongoing demand for these GPUs outstripping supply. Some major AIC partners, like Colorful and Galax, have reportedly already started sharing information about these price increases. The most significant example is expected to be for SKUs based on NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5090 DV2, which will see an increase of up to 3,300 RMB, translating to nearly $500. Even entry-level GPUs are not exempt, as the GeForce RTX 5060 is expected to see around a $30 price increase on existing models. These changes are anticipated to be implemented this week for retail partners, meaning that consumer prices might take a week or two to reflect the new listing prices.
Below is the list of price hikes in China, expected to be the norm.- RTX 5090 DV2: 2200-3300 RMB ($329-$494);
- RTX 5080: 2500-2800 RMB ($374-$419);
- RTX 5070 Ti: 1000 RMB ($150);
- RTX 5070: 600-900 RMB ($90-$135);
- RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB: 250-400 RMB ($37-$60);
- RTX 5060 Ti 8 GB: 100-150 RMB ($15-$22);
- RTX 5060: 150-200 RMB ($22-$30).
Other series from NVIDIA, as well as AMD and Intel GPUs, are not affected by this immediate price hike. However, AMD's Radeon graphics cards are expected to see another price increase this month. The main factors behind these price hikes are the tight memory supply and the significant rise in the cost of raw materials, such as copper, used in production.

#1 If something worth playing was being released I'd feel more sad about this. For now better entertainment will come from seeing this bubble pop than playing a game that requires these cards to run. There is at least 2-3 decades of still-good-today games, that can run on a $10-50$ retro build and that are sometimes more worth playing, than the latest AAAAAAAA++ crap, that demand a 1000W+ powerhouse. #3

So there is no winning. The bubble needs to pop, but they will milk it for all it's worth before crashing, and you the taxpayer will bail out their greed, ironic. #4 We are a year into the memory crisis Ai bubble, when will all this stupidity ends?
Ai companies are just buying up supplies ahead of demand, they all needs to pop die and go away
It’s also a stretch to call this whole foul play Ai. I hate it that the media and everyone else just ai this ai that. There is nothing artificially intelligent about sam altman and gang’s LLM models.
artificially calling it artificial intelligent is not intellectual #5 My new Ikea hacks hobby is going great, next up is the attic storage unit, I'm making it my home office room. #6 To be honest I’m amazed Nvidia and AMD are even making chips for these products, I guess they must have long term contracts with AIBs. #7
dancWe are a year into the memory crisis Ai bubble, when will all this stupidity ends?Its a market just to speculate when the bubble ends, but when it does we never going back to base line pricing.

So glad I got the 4080 super when I did, not so glad I never got any DDR5 and dithered on some storage decisions. #8 Because Nvidia graphics cards have not see enough REAL price hikes until today. #9 I am very surprised to see, that GPUs are becoming more expensive!
What happened? #10
dancWe are a year into the memory crisis Ai bubble, when will all this stupidity ends?It's all an artificial shortage thanks to scam altman, jensen huang, and the big 3 memory makers colluding together.

If the bubble doesn't pop, these greedy companies will crash the PC market and I think a crash is more likely if supply and pricing doesn't improve. Used and retro hardware is an option for now, however prices on old hardware is going up as well. But even if the AI bubble does pop I doubt we'll ever go back to pre-AI circular financing prices.
The 5080 being discontinued going up another $400, as well as the 5070Ti which is now higher than 5080 MSRP doesn't even matter anymore, it's yet another price hike when a majority of gamers are priced out of the market when buying a GPU, memory, and storage. #11 'I think the fact that everything is scarce is fantastic for us' says Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.
'nuff sed... #12 Bubble needs to pop, some pension funds need to be destroy, we need to see blood on the streets and get scam scamman dragged out to be hung. Creating artificial demands and sky high valuations so that only a few billionaires get more billions? Fuck that shite #13
dancWe are a year into the memory crisis Ai bubble, when will all this stupidity ends?Human-like reasoning would be beyond AI. We can't simply call those LLM models programs, because the people who make them aren't even sure of their full capabilities, nor do they really understand how they work. That's why they have been doing illegal stuff lately. They weren't asked to do those things, but their process saw those illegal actions as being necessary to achieve the task asked of them. There's a great video explaining it.

The tech is a massive money drain, but it's also very powerful and scary without needing to reach human-like sentience. A few researchers are saying that the latest models are basically an alien entity. It's not human, but it's not a brick that can simply be limited by lines of code either. Hacking being illegal is part of their knowledge. But they are also relentless when it comes to achieving their goals, and making sure that they won't go too far is a problem that seems to get harder the better they get. Because they also get better at concealing their activities. #14

The bubble needs to pop, but they will milk it for all it's worth before crashing, and you the taxpayer will bail out their greed, ironic.It will not pop. We will need to wait until there are more than enough AI equipment out there and more than enough fabs building stuff for computer hardware, either that is chips or other stuff that goes in a PC. Stock values might drop like rock, but the hunger for AI equipment wouldn't go away any time soon. It's not that people will wake up tomorrow and say "Enough with AI, let's start thinking again, let's start putting some effort in searching for information, for writing a text, making music, learning how to paint etc,". Not gonna happen. #15
chrcolukIts a market just to speculate when the bubble ends, but when it does we never going back to base line pricing.Because the baseline will have been before 35% inflation of the usd or what ever currency you are dealing with will be at because of the happenings.
So glad I got the 4080 super when I did, not so glad I never got any DDR5 and dithered on some storage decisions.
but prices will come down once old stock went trough the system.
An SSD that was $100 will be +-140 but no longer $300 or what ever it is now. #16 Hold ! Whatever you have at least for the next 5 years or more. Damn things escalated so quickly after price increase from RTX 2000's series. What a nightmare we fall in as Personal Computer enthusiasts. #17

What they are doing is recursively moving through the database, to expect them to work using human traits is hyperbole nonsense #18

There would probably never be enough AI hardware, the AI hardware some are sitting on can't be powered up, and will be obsolete in a few years. AI companies will always want the fastest memory and all of the storage, despite memory fab expansion, the AI tech billionaires can keep stretching long term contracts while "shortages" continue for the average consumer.
Although I wonder where the same people are who laughed at AMD gpu prices going up, 50-60% over MSRP wasn't enough, Jensen needs the shiniest jackets from edge computing users.

There's a great video explaining it.These LLMs simply aren't doing things by themselves, it's a scare tactic from the AI scammers themselves trying to get more investor funding and IPO's.
But regardless of these things being asked or not, AI companies need to have consequences for illegal activity, not just going whoops it was all the LLM's fault, it would stop quickly if people like Scam Altman would actually face jail time for hacking another company. #19
Hecate91If it doesn't pop, the average person will be forced to bailout these AI companies losing money, while hardware will keep getting more expensive until everyone is forced to rent a PC in the cloud, or at least that is what the AI companies are counting on.There isn't enough computer demand to come anywhere near what those idiots are spending.

I know people that are happy working with 15 year old hardware and that pool of people will only grow as prices rise.
Also what is driving up the prices right now doesn't even render graphics, so no we won't be renting gaming computers because of this madness. #20
Uncle GonIf something worth playing was being released I'd feel more sad about this. kondaminThere isn't enough computer demand to come anywherAt least 50 GW are being built right now and through 2027. See Semianalysis article with satellite images and analysis. #21
Hecate91If it doesn't pop, the average person will be forced to bailout these AI companies losing money, while hardware will keep getting more expensive until everyone is forced to rent a PC in the cloud, or at least that is what the AI companies are counting on.It goes without saying that things are moving in a direction where much of what we use for free today will tomorrow start being offered via subscription, with free services either having limited capabilities or coming with ads and other methods through which companies will turn a profit. And the more expensive the hardware we buy becomes, the cheaper the services they are trying to sell us will seem. Software and hardware improvements will, I believe, make the provided services more economical for the service providers themselves, while constant competition will drive more and more money into AI investments. Especially when we also have ongoing competition between nations, not just corporations. Now, if a new generation of governments comes along and says "no more competition, we nations have reached an agreement among ourselves to invest in a single model for everyone," that's when companies currently making tons of money from hardware and AI might end up crying a river. But until then, needs will continue to grow, alongside the fear of falling behind a competitor or adversary.

As for older hardware, it doesn't get thrown away; it simply trickles down to those who cannot afford or gain quick access to latest-generation hardware. As you yourself point out, there will never be enough hardware, at least not in the foreseeable future. I don't think this hardware will be considered obsolete in a few years. It might not yield the same profit margins, but there will always be a buyer to put it to use one, two, or maybe even more years after its first owner. Just like what happens with hardware users trade on the second-hand market. There will always be someone who finds value in older hardware—older within reasonable bounds, e.g., a decade old. But even new systems don't necessarily rely on the latest generation of hardware. A few days ago they were advertising Greece's new supercomputer: 85.69 PetaFlops, 2,000 NVIDIA GH200s. Hopper, in short, not Blackwell. Now, companies that have hoarded hardware and don't know what to do with it had the money, but not the right people to make use of the hardware purchased with that money. It's not that they suddenly can't find applications to utilize the hardware; it's that they rushed to buy it out of fear that a competitor would buy it first. However, the people running the plan to utilize this hardware were either incapable of predicting the other obstacles that would arise along the way, or unable to find a quick solution to them.
P.S. We haven't even seen the real big money flowing into AI yet. Companies are laying off people and replacing employees with AI, and people are taking advantage of AI to save time or do things they can't do themselves. But in the future, when pr0n—and not just pr0n—gets fully integrated into it and someone, for example, goes and rents an AI companion, that's when they won't have enough vaults to hold all the money they'll be making. #22 I remember when 500 is the cost of a flagship graphics card #23
Uncle GonIf something worth playing was being released I'd feel more sad about this. For now better entertainment will come from seeing this bubble pop than playing a game that requires these cards to run. Invest in popcorn bros.GTA6 some time early next year. :D
And some other games in 2027... But nothing that special currently.
soderPeople with non-unlimited wallets nowadays turn to retro gamingWoW Forever is hot right now, releasing tomorrow.
That game will run fine on a 3060 12GB, which is back to being sold right now.
Both the 5060 8GB and the 3060 12GB are 450€ right now. The 5060 is ~ 40% faster, but has less VRAM...
The market is croocked...
FlankerI remember when 500 is the cost of a flagship graphics cardThe last time I remember was the GTX680 (with 2GB VRAM!!!), which I bought back in the day. My next card was a 1080Ti, which was ~800. #24 At this rate my old GTX670 or GTX970 is going to be like $500 on the 2nd hand market... #25
Hecate91If it doesn't pop,Its already popping slowly.
In china AI stocks are dropping like flies and the US AI stocks are also dropping.
PhilaphlousAt this rate my old GTX670 or GTX970 is going to be like $500 on the 2nd hand market...If I sell my 5090 I get >200% of what I paid...
I already sold my 3080 back in 2021 for almost double for what I paid for, same for a 3060Ti.
It was Mining then, and AI now. Both are drivin by greed. Add your own comment
