FactBlock, Moving Beyond Digital Assets to 'On-Chain Finance & AI Economy'… KBW 2026 Opens
Interest in the digital asset industry is shifting beyond coin trading to financial infrastructure and the AI economy. As institutions such as banks, securities firms, and asset management companies participate in the market, discussions are taking shape regarding the implementation of traditional financial functions—including issuance, custody, settlement, and rights management—on the blockchain. Following stablecoins and the tokenization of real assets, an economic structure in which AI agents autonomously trade computational resources and services has also emerged as a new agenda. At 'KBW2026 with Upbit,' which opened in Seoul, stakeholders from the finance, technology, and policy sectors are gathered to discuss these changes in digital finance.
Web3 ecosystem builder FactBlock opened the 'KBW2026 with Upbit' main conference on the 30th at the Walkerhill Hotel & Resort in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. The event continues until October 1st, with Upbit participating as a presenting partner.
290 speakers will participate in this year's main conference. Adding the 40 speakers from the 'Upbit Institutional Summit (UIS),' held by invitation on the 29th, brings the total number of speakers to 330. The program consists of a total of 120 sessions.

In his opening keynote speech, Park Wi-ik, CEO of FactBlock, cited institutional market entry, legislative progress, and artificial intelligence as major changes in the digital asset industry. He explained that as institutional participation—including banks, securities firms, and asset management companies—increases, the market's focus is shifting from asset trading to issuance, custody, settlement, and rights management.
He emphasized that for such changes to translate into actual financial services, a cooperative structure connecting not only financial institutions and technology companies but also legal and accounting experts and infrastructure providers is necessary.
Oh Kyung-seok, CEO of Dunamu, the operator of Upbit and presenting partner, raised the issue of connecting the Korean digital asset market with global on-chain finance. His view is that as the boundaries between traditional and digital finance blur, it is necessary to ensure access to global capital, link it with the Korean Won, and expand domestically proven technologies and infrastructure overseas.
CEO Oh said, “Based on the infrastructure verified in Korea, our country can also advance to become a global digital financial hub.”
AI Spends Money Too… Up to an 'Agent Economy' Buying and Selling Computational Resources
A new economic structure where AI and blockchain meet also emerged as a major agenda item at this event.
Arthur Hayes, Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Maelstrom, introduced the concept of 'FLOP,' a currency and payment network for AI agents. The system involves distributing tokens to participants who provide GPU computing resources, allowing AI agents to use these tokens to purchase computing resources or trade services with one another. While still in the conceptual stage, Hayes presented the potential for a decentralized infrastructure to support the AI agent economy.
Joseph Lubin, co-founder of Ethereum and Chairman and CEO of MetaMask, proposed a direction to expand MetaMask, which started as a virtual asset wallet, into a new financial operating system (OS). The plan envisions connecting various digital financial assets, such as stablecoins and tokenized stocks, on a single platform.
Tom Lee, Chairman of Bitmine, predicted that the tokenization of financial assets and the inflow of institutional funds could be growth drivers for the digital asset market. He also expressed a positive view regarding the current virtual asset market cycle and the long-term growth potential of Ethereum. However, this is Chairman Lee's market outlook and does not definitively signify future market movements.
Speakers at this year's event include Jeff Jan, CEO of HyperLiquid Labs; Johan Kerbra, Senior Vice President and Head of Crypto at Robinhood; Yuval Luz, Co-founder and CEO of Canton; Mike Belsey, Co-founder and CEO of BitGo; and Bo Heins, CEO of Tether USA₮.
The main conference will be held across three stages: the Zero-G (0G), Stable, and BitGo stages. It covers the intersection of finance with blockchain and AI technologies, ranging from changes in global trading platforms to the tokenization of capital markets, digital asset infrastructure for institutions, the use of stablecoins for payments, and the AI agent economy. According to the organizers, tickets for the event sold out on the 28th.
FactBlock plans to extend the discussions formed at the event beyond one-off meetings to follow-up working-level consultations and joint verification among policy authorities, financial institutions, and technology companies.
CEO Park Wi-ik stated, “For the potential emerging from a single meeting to become an industry, a second and third conversation are necessary,” adding, “Conversation, connection, and verification—these three are the promises FactBlock will make going forward.”
