MoonPay Korea Launches, Moving Beyond On-Chain Liquidity to 'White Label'… Aiming for Asia as a Hub
MoonPay, a global digital asset financial infrastructure company, is setting out to target the Korean market. The company is expanding its business scope beyond virtual asset on-ramps and off-ramps (exchanges between fiat currency and virtual assets) to include stablecoin liquidity provision, cross-border payments, and on-chain infrastructure for financial institutions and enterprises. The plan is to connect its global digital asset infrastructure with the domestic financial system, centered around its Korean subsidiary, and then expand the services verified there to the Asian market.
MoonPay held the 'MoonPay Korea Official Launch Media Day' at the Conrad Seoul in Yeouido on the 29th, unveiling the launch of its Korean subsidiary and its strategy for entering the domestic market. Positioning Korea as a key hub for its Asian business, the company plans to establish actual services in cross-border fund transfer sectors, including overseas remittances, payment and settlement, and the global distribution of digital assets. After verifying service localization, financial system integration, and customer experience with domestic partners, the company intends to expand the scope of application tailored to the market conditions of each country.
The reason for focusing on the Korean market lies in its financial environment, where banks, credit card companies, lifestyle platforms, and a blockchain ecosystem have developed together. We also identified concrete demand capable of connecting global financial infrastructure, such as overseas remittances by international students, domestic payments by foreigners, overseas payment settlements by companies, and the global distribution of domestic digital assets.
On this day, Bugeon Lee, co-founder and Asia representative of MoonPay, stated, “Our most fundamental mission is to provide customers with a faster, cheaper, and more convenient asset transfer experience and added value,” adding, “Combining the customer touchpoints of domestic financial institutions with MoonPay’s global network and infrastructure will enable new financial services.”

It has already established a significant global business foundation. Currently, the cumulative transaction volume exceeds $45 billion, and there are over 32 million verified users. As of the last 12 months, the number of onboarding and transaction partners has surpassed 1,500. It supports the entire process of on-chain value transfer, ranging from on- and off-ramps to stablecoin conversion, global payments, issuance and redemption, and merchant payments and settlements.
Focus on 'Infrastructure' rather than competition with specific stablecoins
At the heart of the domestic business is a stablecoin infrastructure targeting corporations and financial institutions. Rather than directly issuing KRW-denominated stablecoins, the focus is on the 'White Label' business (support for stablecoin issuance), which provides issuance, management, and distribution infrastructure to enable financial institutions or corporations to build their own branded stablecoins.
Caroline D. Pham, CEO, CLO, and CAO of MoonPay Institution, explained, “While Circle conducts its business centered on the stablecoin USDC, MoonPay focuses on the infrastructure that supports companies and financial institutions in issuing stablecoins under their own brands.”

Providing liquidity that links Korean Won stablecoins with global stablecoins is also a key pillar of the domestic business. CEO Lee stated, "During discussions with domestic financial institutions, we confirmed that there is a significant demand for liquidity," adding, "Conversion between various stablecoins and the provision of liquidity will become important business areas."
The plan also includes establishing the 'Last Mile,' the final segment connecting global infrastructure to actual domestic financial services. This approach involves specifying the respective roles of domestic financial institutions and platforms in customer verification, fund flow, payment and settlement, and customer protection processes, while integrating Korean Won deposits and withdrawals with domestic payment methods. Services will be expanded in stages as requirements for each service, such as necessary virtual asset business operator registration and licensing/registration, are met.
Finger Acquisition and Woori Bank MOU… Expanding Contact with Domestic Financial Sector
It is also expanding partnerships to connect with the domestic financial market. Last April, it acquired Finger, a first-generation domestic fintech company, for approximately 110 billion won together with Seungho Electronics. By combining Finger's solutions for financial institutions with its global digital asset infrastructure, it secures a point of contact between domestic financial services and the on-chain ecosystem.
In the same month, it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Woori Bank to establish a Korean Won stablecoin infrastructure, and is also pursuing cooperation with KB Financial Group, Kakao Bank, and others in the fields of stablecoins and payment and remittance infrastructure. It plans to provide API-based infrastructure that connects stablecoins issued or utilized by domestic financial institutions to the global on-chain market and enables the integration of digital asset functions into existing financial services.
MoonPay Korea is establishing a business foundation in accordance with the domestic regulatory framework and is proceeding with the necessary procedures for reporting as a virtual asset service provider and licensing and registration. A schedule was also presented to pursue VASP reporting next year.

From AI agent payments to… regulatory compliance also emphasized
'Agentic Finance,' in which AI agents participate in the payment process, was also presented as a new business area. The AI-based payment service 'PayBox' was demonstrated at the event. It was explained that for AI agents to directly perform financial transactions and payments, they must satisfy financial regulatory requirements—such as transaction approval, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Know Your Customer (KYC), and transaction monitoring—and therefore, technology and regulatory compliance must be designed together.
CEO Palm stated, “We will introduce an integrated platform to Korea that encompasses everything from capital inflow to tokenization, trading, and usage.” He cited not only stablecoins but also tokenized physical assets (RWA) and cross-border payments as areas for cooperation with domestic financial institutions.
The direction of the Korean business does not remain limited to existing virtual asset on- and off-ramp services. It is shifting its focus to the B2B sector, connecting liquidity, payment and settlement, and digital asset distribution infrastructure to enable financial institutions and companies to utilize the global on-chain market. The experience gained in integrating financial systems and localizing services domestically will be utilized as a foundation for future expansion into various Asian countries.
CEO Lee stated, “Korea is an important market where finance and digital services have developed rapidly,” adding, “We will connect global payment and stablecoin infrastructure with domestic financial institutions and companies to implement actual services, and based on this, expand into the Asian market.”
