휴머노이드 로봇 스타트업 홀리데이로보틱스는 자사 연구진이 주도한 논문 ‘FlashSAC: Fast and Stable Off-Policy Reinforcement Learning for High-Dimensional Robot Control’이 세계적 로보틱스 학회 RSS(Robotics: Science and Systems) 2026에서 최우수논문상(Outstanding Paper Award)을 수상했다.

Training Time Reduced from 'Hourly to Minutes'… Holiday Robotics Wins Korea's First Best Paper Award at World's Top Robotics Conference

The competition in humanoid robots is expanding beyond hardware to include AI learning algorithms. As the ability to quickly and stably train new tasks emerges as a key competitive advantage for creating humanoids capable of deployment in actual industrial settings, a research team from a Korean startup has proven its technological prowess by winning the Best Paper Award at the world's most prestigious robotics conference.

Humanoid robot startup Holiday Robotics announced that a paper titled 'FlashSAC: Fast and Stable Off-Policy Reinforcement Learning for High-Dimensional Robot Control,' led by its research team, won the Outstanding Paper Award at the global robotics conference RSS (Robotics: Science and Systems) 2026.

Korea's First… World's Best Paper Led by a Startup

RSS is considered one of the most prestigious conferences in the field of robotics worldwide. It presents only carefully selected research through a single-track format each year, and the Best Paper Award is presented to the conference's most authoritative research achievement. In Korea, while a KAIST research team received the Systems Paper Award in 2023, this marks the first time a team has won the Best Paper Award. The achievement is particularly significant because the research was led by a startup team rather than a university or a large research institution.

FlashSAC, proposed in the award-winning paper, is a reinforcement learning algorithm that enables fast and stable training of high-dimensional robots, such as jointed humanoids.

It improved upon the limitations of existing reinforcement learning, which had to balance learning speed and stability, reducing the humanoid walking training time from several hours to minutes.

The research team verified the performance of the algorithm through 10 types of simulators and over 60 tasks, and confirmed the validity of the technology in real environments by applying the control policies learned in the simulations to actual humanoids to implement walking, turning, and even stair movement.

FlashSAC is also being applied to 'FRIDAY,' an industrial humanoid currently under development by Holiday Robotics.

The company expects that by shortening learning time, it can significantly reduce the process of developing new movements and applying them to actual robots, thereby accelerating the development of industrial-grade humanoids.

A Holiday Robotics official stated, “FlashSAC is not a technology confined to academic papers, but one being applied to actual product development,” adding, “Connecting world-class research achievements to product competitiveness is the company’s strength.”

Researchers Dong-hoo Kim and Ho-jun Lee from Holiday Robotics participated as lead authors in this paper, while researchers Made Aswin Narendra and Se-hee Min were listed as co-authors. Professor Jan Peters from TU Darmstadt, Germany, Professor Danika Kragic from KTH Sweden, and Professor Jae-geol Ju from KAIST also participated in the collaborative research.

“This award is the result of global recognition of the originality and research competitiveness of the core robotics technology the company has developed,” said Song Ki-young, CEO of Holiday Robotics. “We will continue to rapidly translate research achievements into actual products to prove the value of humanoids in industrial settings.”
