SaaS(Software as a Service)

회사가 새롭게 집중하고 있는 영역은 AI 에이전트 사업인 AITF(AI Transformation Framework)다.

From Reservation Platform to AI Agent Enterprise… Zanda CEO Kim Hwa-hyun Discusses Survival Conditions for B2B SaaS

The generative AI craze is shaking up the entire industry. While domestic SaaS (Software as a Service) companies are scrambling to adopt AI capabilities, there are quite a few voices on the ground stating that it is difficult to actually feel a tangible answer to the question, "How much has my work actually decreased?"

Zanda, headquartered in Busan, is taking a slightly different path. Having pioneered the market for eight years with its reservation and operations SaaS platform 'JungleBooking,' Zanda is recently facing a new turning point by putting its AI agent business, 'AITF,' at the forefront.

CEO Kim Hwa-hyun states that even in the AI era, what ultimately matters is not the technology itself, but how deeply one understands the field. We met with him to hear the story of Zanda, a company evolving from a reservation platform into an AI agent enterprise.

Kim Hwa-hyun, CEO of Zanda (Zanda)

A startup that began with Airbnb cleaning

Zanda did not have a grand beginning. Before founding the company, CEO Kim Hwa-hyun operated 'HousePeople,' an Airbnb management brand, for about four years. As the business grew, reservations became scattered across phone calls, text messages, the website, and various platforms, making the task of managing them increasingly complex.

Managing operations was much more difficult than the reservations themselves. Everything from customer inquiries and scheduling to payments and follow-up management was operating independently.

Having personally experienced the inconveniences on the ground, he naturally began to examine the U.S. B2B SaaS market. In the process, he discovered that the market for operational platforms for domestic small and medium-sized businesses was virtually empty. Interestingly, he did not start the business with data in mind from the beginning.

“To be honest, I initially started this to solve a business problem. However, as I continued operating, I realized that every reservation, sale, and every single customer action is data. I found that who makes a reservation, when, what, and on which channel ultimately becomes the blueprint of the business.”

At that time, it was not easy for domestic small and medium-sized businesses to secure their own data. The cost of building their own online stores was high, and there were not many platforms that could be flexibly utilized according to industry characteristics. Even if such platforms existed, they were either complex or prohibitively expensive. CEO Kim determined that this was precisely where the opportunity lay. Over the past eight years, he has filled the gap in the market by refining Jungle Booking.

It took Salesforce and Microsoft over 10 years to gain proper recognition in the market. So, I decided to persevere even longer and learn more.

Not a reservation platform, but an operation platform

CEO Kim does not focus on comparing features even when discussing competition with Naver Reservation, Imweb, or global SaaS companies. The fundamental problem he observed in the market was that reservations, payments, customer management, and marketing were disconnected from one another.

"Naver Reservation is closer to a payment channel, while Imweb is a website building tool. Most global SaaS services are also tailored to Western business practices. However, Korean small and medium-sized businesses need to operate everything from reservations and payments to customer management and marketing within a single workflow."

He defines this as a 'data-driven customer operations loop.' Jungle Booking features a structure where customer data is automatically accumulated in the CRM (Customer Relationship Management) from the moment a reservation is made, connecting payments, marketing, and repeat visit management into a single flow.

Business owners do not need to input data separately. When a reservation is made, the CRM is automatically generated and customer data accumulates. It is a structure where data is naturally created as operations proceed.

This philosophy did not stop at reservation management. It extended to settlement tasks, one of the areas where business owners experience the most inconvenience during operations.

In 2025, Zanda partnered with Toss Payments to launch a 'one-click settlement service.' When a business owner requests a settlement, fees and deposits are automatically calculated and deposited into their account within hours. Cash receipts are also automatically issued. Currently, an automatic tax invoice issuance feature linked with Barobill is also under development.

CEO Kim stated, “From a business owner’s perspective, the process of actual money coming in is often more important than the reservations,” adding, “I believed that the role of SaaS is to eliminate the point of greatest inconvenience for operators.”

This strategy is also paying off in the numbers. In 2024, transaction revenue generated through the Jungle Booking platform reached 20 billion won, and an additional 10 billion won in transaction revenue was generated thanks to the revenue growth of client companies.

Currently, Jungle Booking operates in 28 countries and is used by approximately 10,000 operators. SK Rent-a-Car, KOTRA, Busan International Financial Center (BIFC), and Wooju Property Management are also listed as major clients.

From SaaS to an AI Agent Company… “What Lasts Longer Than Technology Is the Language of the Field”

Recently, Zanda no longer presents itself as a simple reservation platform company. The area the company is newly focusing on is the AI Transformation Framework (AITF), an AI agent business. CEO Kim believes that as the AI era fully takes hold, the competitiveness of the functionalities themselves will rapidly become standardized.

We are in an era where AI writes code. Anyone can quickly create features.

What he cites as the source of competitiveness is data rather than technology, specifically operational data accumulated in the field. The data that Jungle Booking has built over the past eight years is not merely a record of reservations. It consists of operational experiences from the actual field accumulated in the form of data, such as when a business owner abandons a service, what kind of guidance messages increase reservation conversion rates, and which customers lead to repeat purchases.

What we possess is not functionality, but the language of the field. Such data cannot be found through searching, nor can it be generated solely through coding.

This mindset is directly reflected in internal operations as well. Currently, 24 AI agents are performing actual tasks within Zanda. While significant time was previously required for organizational operations and communication, the proportion of communication with employees and partners has now been reduced to approximately 30%, with the remaining tasks handled or assisted by AI agents. In essence, they are experimenting with AI-driven business innovations internally first before offering them to customers.

CEO Kim’s vision for Zanda three years from now is also clear. Jungle Booking will establish itself as an operational data infrastructure across vertical industries, while AITF will grow into an AI agent platform that performs actual tasks on top of it. He predicted that as the pace of AI technology development accelerates, the value of companies that understand the field will actually increase.

The technology gap can disappear faster than expected. However, the gap in experience—understanding customers and the field—does not disappear easily.

The question I had while running an Airbnb ten years ago remains unchanged. How can I make it easier for business owners to operate? How can I reduce repetitive tasks and focus more on the customer experience?

CEO Kim states that ultimately, AI is merely a tool to answer that question. Technology continues to evolve, but real-world problems remain. His conclusion is that the companies that understand these issues most deeply will survive in the AI era.

In an era where everyone talks about AI technology, Zanda focuses more on how the technology works in real-world scenarios rather than the technology itself. This is ultimately the reason why Zanda, which started as a SaaS company, is evolving into an AI agent enterprise.

Airbnb

会社が新たに集中している領域は、AIエージェント事業であるAITF(AI Transformation Framework)だ。

Zanda
