Wednesday, April 29th 2026 Denuvo Responds to Day-Zero DRM Hypervisor Crack: "We're Already Working on Updated Security Versions" by Cpt.Jank Yesterday, 05:08 Discuss (45 Comments) A Hypervisor bypass recently appeared giving game crackers an alternative way to circumvent protections like Denuvo DRM. The bypass is so effective that popular game repacker, FitGirl, has declared that "all single-player/non-VR Denuvo games are now cracked/bypassed." The announcement comes after four Hypervisor bypasses were released for EA Sports games. The Hypervisor bypass appears to rely on installing a new Hypervisor driver in Ring -1, granting it very low-level access, which present significant security concerns, as acknowledged by FitGirl themself. The announcement of this universal Denuvo bypass has prompted Denuvo to implement a new workaround: require a regular DRM check with an online server every two weeks, according to recent reports from players online. This updated check has seemingly been applied to games published by 2K, namely NBA 2K25 and 2K26 and Marvel's Midnight Suns. Irdeto, the company behind Denuvo, has also spoken out about the issue, stating that "We're already working on updated security versions for games impacted by hypervisor bypasses. For players, performance will not be compromised by these strengthened security measures." Notably, Denuvo also said that whatever workaround is released will not operate in Ring -1, as has been theorized.
Denuvo's response is notable, because the DRM software is notorious for causing performance regressions in games, especially when played on low-powered hardware—even though we did not find this to necessarily be true in our testing in 2019. Game studios also have a habit of adding Denuvo to games at the last minute before launch, which often leaves pre-orderers blindsided by a change that may or may not affect their performance. Arguments about performance aside, there are also arguments to be made about game ownership and preservation, the latter of which becomes impossible if the Denuvo DRM servers are taken offline towards the end of the game's life cycle.

#1 Certainly Denuvo can figure out a way to use AI in DRM without having to phone home? #2 The bullshit I had to deal with SafeDisc and SecuROM back in the day because I bought the original game was something so infuriating, especially since this garbage remains in games after developers stop supporting them and it's the biggest contributor to games stopping working because they shovel so much kernel level garbage and drivers in them they f**king always have problems when OS changes a bit more. None of which pirates had to deal with the entire time. All this DRM protection garbage ALWAYS punishes actual buyers the most and I hate this crap with a burning passion. #3 Denuvo get's cracked?
I say Huzzah! :rockout: #4 Ah, yes, the solution is to make the DRM even more intrusive than it already is. Give customers an even worse experience (compared to pirates) than they already have.
This'll hopefully result in an even harder push to bypass Denuvo.
I exclusively buy games that are either DRM-free or have relatively weak DRM (like SteamStub). After my experience with FFXV, I'm never buying another Denuvo game. #5
sam_86314I exclusively buy games that are either DRM-freeSame here. DRM is completely anti-consumer and anyone with good sense knows it. #6 Put games back on cartridges! Then we can sell them again. Even my old Commodore had a cartridge slot. #7
lexluthermiesterDenuvo get's cracked? The downside is this just escalates the bad decisions they insist on foisting on paying customers.

zenlessyankPut games back on cartridges! Then we can sell them again. Even my old Commodore had a cartridge slot.Wouldn’t that be fun? This is what Switch does to some extent, though even those carts are becoming more meaningless by the passing year.
All solutions will get hacked eventually. It’s just like door locks, they keep the honest and the lazy out. #8 They need to be concerned with voices38's cracks that don't use the hypervisor method and allow you just install it like any other game.
Hypervisor method can be patched as they are doing with 2k games and tokens but voices38's is different.
They'll probably end up paying voices38 to stop like it's believed they did empress. #9 They said this like weeks ago and nothing since than. #10
BorisDGThey said this like weeks ago and nothing since than.As I understand there is no way to actually stop this hypervisor bypass without them... basically changing the entire anti-tamper system. The guy who's saying it doesn't affect performance and this new version they're supposedly developing won't either is talking out of his arse as well.
Despite what the OP reports, the 2019 review by W1zzard already shows that the unprotected executable is consistently faster, so I can't imagine raising the complexity on the anti tamper system since has or will help things any.
It just punishes legitimate customers, that is all. Irdeto needs to... well, unsuitable language for the forum :P #11
sam_86314Ah, yes, the solution is to make the DRM even more intrusive than it already is.Denuvo is intrusive? Do you even have a PC and ever played a Denuvo game?
Because my Denuvo sure as hell isn't intrusive. I have never even noticed when a game was protected by Denuvo. It doesn't get more unintrusive than Denuvo. It just does its thing (whatever that may be) in the background.
I have literally had zero issues with it over many, many years and have never even paid attention if a game I bought has Denuvo or not. Most of the time I only found out because of the usual whiny threads on the Steam forums which were made by people who obviously would have preferred a freebie.
I wish Irdeto the best of luck in eliminating the crack vector. The gaming industry is pretty troubled as is. The last thing we need is a huge return of freeloading. Though, honestly, my backlog is so huge that I don't even really care so go ahead and freeload, everyone. And then come on forums like this one to complain about the decline so I can keep having a laugh at the usual gamer hypocrisy :D . #12
RogueSixDenuvo is intrusive? Do you even have a PC and ever played a Denuvo game?Well, I’ve had issues with it not letting me play for 24 hours, so I guess our votes cancel out. There are also claims that it inhibits performance, which it can do “unobtrusively” in the background. Lastly, the state of gaming is already troubled by buggy launch titles that often take years to improve. Seems the industry is already okay with sticking it to their paying customers, their best ones, mind you, as they buy at launch and pay full price. Does this mean stealing the games is okay in my book? No, not at all. If I can’t afford it or it’s a bad product, I’m just not going to buy it. #13 Nothing recent here, HV bypass exist for months now, it's just that the backlog have been cleared a few days ago.

They can update all they want, that doesn't change the fact that every current released games are now playable, including crimson dessert and Pragmata, at best the update will protect the new ones.
Fitgirl is the worst source you could use.
By the way do you realize that you just gave a direct link to a website sharing cracked/bypassed games @Cpt.Jank ?
Not that I personally mind, but isn't that illegal or at least in breach of TPU rules ?
I wanted to make a thread on the forum about the technical aspects of HV and refrained for that reason. #14
Dr. DroAs I understand there is no way to actually stop this hypervisor bypass without them... basically changing the entire anti-tamper system. The guy who's saying it doesn't affect performance and this new version they're supposedly developing won't either is talking out of his arse as well.Interesting. I never thought DRM was running a game in a hypervisor. (I never occurred to me they would do that.) That would be a level 2 hypervisor no or are they piggybacking on hyper-v? #15 The first rule of fight club is that you don't talk about fight club.

Denuvo sounds like some hand cream at Walgreens. #16 There is really no way to stop kernal expoits. Denuvo is kinda of screwed. #17 Why the companies doing this nonsense just to save few thousand dollars or lose few?
All these protections have always been cracked.
The pirates get a lof of satisfaction by getting a free game, playing a game and don't have to deal with protection that makes games slow or other issues while the consumers get "fuqed" by paying for a game, dealing with a broken game until it gets fixed after a year or two and dealing with these protections that also causes issues.
Priceless #18
lexluthermiesterDenuvo get's cracked?Well, kind of. Having to severely compromise your security to use hypervisor is a devil's bargain. #19
I say Huzzah! :rockout:
zenlessyankPut games back on cartridges! Then we can sell them again. Even my old Commodore had a cartridge slot.I'm 100% onboard with this idea!
Darmok N JaladThe downside is this just escalates the bad decisions they insist on foisting on paying customers. That depends. Most people who hate Denuvo actively avoid it and will not buy/play games where it's included, unless there's a "patch" to remove it. So in reality my comment was entirely in jest.
RogueSixDenuvo is intrusive? Do you even have a PC and ever played a Denuvo game?Yes and Yes.
RogueSixBecause my Denuvo sure as hell isn't intrusive. I have never even noticed when a game was protected by Denuvo. It doesn't get more unintrusive than Denuvo. It just does its thing (whatever that may be) in the background. And you are the perfect example of the sheeple that Denuvo/Etc count on the ignorance of. #20 The whole Denuvo outrage is a bit of a cope anyway. Sure, it's bad. But Steam's DRM is not really any better on principle, unless you want to split hair over a few fps. In the end of the day you're a slave under both, and that's what really matters. #21 No game is worth 100$, let's be real. Especially considering gamers from 2nd or 3rd world countries.
I know, life is not fair, but then again, that is for everybody, including Denuvo ;) #22
Cpt.JankThe bypass is so effective that popular game repacker, FitGirl, has declared that "all single-player/non-VR Denuvo games are now cracked/bypassed."Please familiarize yourself with the "Forum Guidelines" again and repeatedly.
InfernaFitgirl is the worst source you could use.I completely agree with you. This is unacceptable.
(End of sarcasm.)[/HR]
After some research, it turns out the "bypass" can be a hindrance (What?!). Who wants to have to prepare their system "again and again" just to play a game? Even the "security-related" aspect is less appealing in that context.

Fred. #23
cinemawareBut Steam's DRM is not really any better on principleAnd most would agree with you. However, Steam is not the subject of this article and as such the comparison is not apropos. #24
FR3D1Please familiarize yourself with the "Forum Guidelines" again and repeatedly.OMG did you even try it, I suppose you didn't. You don't achieve anything by repeating googled BS. You want to be safe, turn off Internet connection for the time you want to play the game and that's all. Revert and reconnect, done. FitGirl is a great source for people screwed by Deadnuvo, I often buy games and use cracked versions because they simply work better.
I completely agree with you. This is unacceptable.
