NEW RESOURCES

University of La Verne: ULV Student Leads Effort to Digitize Campus Times Archives. “Decades of student journalism are being brought back to life at the University of La Verne, where archival editions of Campus Times are now being digitized and made publicly accessible. The initiative began with student Adonis Borer, a senior majoring in psychology, who partnered with university archivist Keren Darancette to preserve the historic newspapers.”

Earth’s Future: Insights From Managed Retreat Projects in Europe. “Here, we present a data set of European managed retreat cases, based on a multilingual review of academic and gray literature, as well as media articles. We found 44 implemented or planned cases of managed retreat across the continent, spanning 11 countries, ranging from the relocation of individual assets to more than 1,500 households.”

TWEAKS AND UPDATES

Search Engine Roundtable: Google Tests Bold Site Names In Search Results. “Google is testing bolding the site names in the search results. We’ve seen Google bold many other elements of the search result snippet, but I don’t think I’ve covered Google testing bolding the site name portion of the search snippet.”

AROUND THE SEARCH AND SOCIAL MEDIA WORLD

Associated Press: Some West African farmers turn to TikTok as part of agriculture’s changing image. “[Pape] Fall is one of millions of farmers in West Africa believed to be using TikTok and other social media to do business, share ideas and change the perception of agriculture as the work of poor people in this part of the world.”

National Library of Finland: Project to digitise Swedish-language periodicals begins. “In early 2026 the National Library of Finland will launch an extensive, five-year project to digitise all Swedish-language periodicals published in Finland. The project will be carried out together with the Society of Swedish Literature in Finland (SLS) and the copyright management organisation Kopiosto, with €2.1 million in funding from six foundations.”

SECURITY & LEGAL

Tom’s Hardware: Norwegian gov’t consumer watchdog calls out ‘enshittification’ of video games, connected devices, and others — claims hardware deliberately degraded after purchase. “Norway’s Forbrukerrådet, the government-funded Norwegian Consumer Council, published an 80-page report on February 27, arguing that companies across the tech industry are systematically degrading hardware and software after the point of sale to extract additional revenue from locked-in consumers.”

West Orlando News: Consumer Protections from Costs of Data Centers Passed by Florida Senate. “The Florida Senate passed Senate Bill 484, Data Centers, by State Senator Bryan Avila, a Republican representing Miami Springs. The legislation creates what Republicans call strong consumer protections to safeguard Floridians from the negative impacts of large load data centers.”

Hawaii Tribune-Herald: Hawaii bills would curb keiki use of phones, social media. “Hawaii’s keiki could soon face tighter limits on phone use at school, social media access and interactions with artificial intelligence under bills that continue to move through the Legislature.”

RESEARCH & OPINION

Tubefilter: The creator economy is all grown up, but the fight for attention is fiercer than ever. “Creator-driven media has become so popular that a record number of people are choosing to become influencers themselves. About 62% of the creators who responded to The Influencer Marketing Factory’s survey said they have been in their current careers for three years or less. 844,300 creators are active in Instagram’s lifestyle and relationships category alone.”

New York Groove: ‘The revolution needs your ears:’ the case against wearing AirPods all the time. “I live in this city because it’s endlessly fascinating to me; why do I tune out so many of its microtransactions and minor negotiations of humanity that make up its shared space? Turns out I’m not the only one thinking about this.” Good evening, Internet…
