Friday, November 6th 2026 New Xbox PC App Claims 60% Faster Launch Times and UX Improvements by Cpt.Jank Friday, 08:16 Discuss (5 Comments) Epic Games's recent proclamation of significantly faster launch times on its new vibe-coded Epic Games Launcher, followed by a Steam update making similar performance improvements, seems to have inspired Microsoft's Xbox to put in the work to improve its Xbox app for PCs, with a new announcement making several claims about improved performance.

Although the claims for the new Xbox App for PC are more ambiguous, with no startup times claimed and no test data supplied, Microsoft says that the new Xbox App launches up to 60% faster, while Home, Store, and Game Pass pages load up to 50% faster, and in-app windows are claimed to launch 65% faster. Perhaps more important than the performance improvements, however, Xbox has streamlined the app, with "simpler navigation, updated filters, and new ways to organize your games," in addition to a more prominent placement for the Friends tab, wider search that covers installed games, add-ons, and people, as well as a cleaner aesthetic that "make the app easier to scan and navigate." For the time being, these improvements are being tested in the Xbox Insiders program, but Xbox says that it will be rolling out the visual and UX changes to the Xbox web experience and updating the experience for a variety of other devices, like TVs and VR headsets. Barring any massive issues with the testing phase, the new Xbox App UX should roll out to a wider audience in the coming months.
XBOX Insiders will start seeing improvements across the XBOX PC app designed to make everyday actions faster and easier:
  • A faster, more responsive app: The app now launches up to 60% faster. Pages like Home, Store, and Game Pass load up to 50% faster, and in-app windows open up to 65% faster.*
  • An easier-to-use Library: Simpler navigation, updated filters, and new ways to organize your games make it easier to browse your collection and find what you want to play.
  • Friends are easier to reach: Friends and social features are now part of the main navigation, making it easier to see what friends are playing, start a chat, or join a party.
  • Better search: Search across more of XBOX from one place, with results across games, including installed titles and add-ons, and people, so it's easier to find what you're looking for.
  • A cleaner look and feel: Refreshed game cards, Home, Settings, and animations make the app easier to scan and navigate.

The updated experience also makes it easier to find and play your games:
  • Your cloud games in one place: A new Library tab brings together the games you can play through cloud, whether you own them or access them through XBOX Game Pass. Browse, sort, and filter by recently played, genre, input options, and more.
  • More room to browse on larger screens: Desktop mode makes better use of the space on PCs and larger displays, so you can see more as you browse and find games.
  • More ways to make it yours: Choose between dark and light modes, along with five new high-contrast options designed to support different visual needs and preferences.

#1 Maybe, but it also reads entirely reactionary. This was stuff they could of done sooner and provided a better experience to their customers earlier. They just trying to stop a leak because they are scared. Its awesome this has occurred and it may slow the leak, but it wont stop it. Too little, too late. #2 Too bad their recent first party titles totally dropped the ball.

Though if this is part of the process for helix being a sort of hybrid-pc, then I suppose thats probably a good thing for pc gamers.... guess the devil's in the details. #3 Just installed it, works good and a bit faster yes, nice new slightly layout. #4 As an Insider, I also use this new version. And I can say, my download speed is almost maxed out with this and loading up the library is blazingly fast  #5 Yay so now a useless app works faster, while still being completely pointless bloat and is really just a glorified advertisement you have to go through to start your own games. While still lacking any and all crucial features that make it more than just a launcher/store.

I'm sure this will save Xbox. By the way I thought for a second there I was looking at the Epic Games Store. Same featureset, it seems, just like EA and Ubisoft's apps. A social/friend list; a library, a storefront that takes up all the space you have on screen and that's all she wrote. Its nearly 2027. :kookoo:

I think Gabe's laughing his ass off rn
