Phantom Blade Zero launched on Steam on October 29, 2026, and within 9 hours of launch had already cracked 500,000 concurrent players on Steam, according to SteamDB, with that number continuing to rise until it hit 723,876 around 12 hours after the game's launch before declining and rocketing up to its current record of 731,026 peak concurrent players. The game appears to be going through rather dramatic player count swings, dropping to around 110,000 concurrent players every 12 hours, suggesting that it is highly popular in certain regions. This success, which rivals some of the best free-to-play games, is despite the game having a nearly AAA price of $59.99. Its popularity has also put Phantom Blade Zero in first place in Steam's global top sellers list, but the aforementioned fluctuations put it at just fourth place in SteamDB's list of top daily active users. It's also worth noting that these figures are only representative of Phantom Blade Zero's Steam player base, and the game also launched on PlayStation 5 and Epic Games. Phantom Blade Zero has also had a successful start when it comes to reviews, scoring a Very Positive rating on Steam, with 84% of its 27,209 reviews on the platform praising the game. It's also entirely possible that we will see the Steam player count figures rise as the game enters its first weekend after launch.

7 Comments on Phantom Blade Zero Draws 700,000+ Steam Players Within 24 Hours of Launch
#1 75% sales are gonna be in China just like Black Myth. #2 Game gud? I never heard of it and not sure if I need to #3Vayra86Game gud? I never heard of it and not sure if I need toSame. Like what is this? #4 I have never heard of the "Phantom Blade" Games. I had to ask "AI", i mean "SI" what it is.
AI, i mean "SI" said, i mean generated:#5 It's funny how these names work. Phantom Blade to my brain feels like the name of a long running series from ye olde days that I should be aware of but haven't necessarily played (like Onimusha or Resident Evil) but as far as I can tell it's a relatively new series and this is its first real big game.
The franchise comes from Chinese developer
S-GAME.
Its origins are surprisingly humble:
The creative director, Qiwei Liang (known as Soulframe), originally created a game called Rainblood: Town of Death as a student.
That project eventually evolved into the Phantom Blade universe.
The studio subsequently developed several smaller games, including mobile and side-scrolling action titles.
Phantom Blade Zero is the culmination of years of ambition to make a much bigger action game.
So this isn't really a franchise that suddenly appeared out of nowhere. It's just that its previous releases had relatively little international visibility.
Why is Phantom Blade Zero so successful?
There are several things coming together.
A. China is a massive part of its audience
This is probably the biggest explanation for why the franchise might have escaped your attention.
According to market research estimates published immediately before launch:
Approximately 850,000 copies were sold through Steam and PS5 before release.
Around 62.5% of those sales came from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
China alone accounts for a particularly large share of Steam purchases.
The estimated total, including Chinese PC storefront WeGame, exceeded one million pre-launch sales.
I'm happy to report Gemini told me it is *not* a souls like and is more of a traditional hack n slash/brawler type game, which immediately piques my interest because no one makes those anymore.
I'll put in on the wishlist and pick it up for a tenner at some point down the line. #6
Solaris17Same. Like what is this? The game has very fluid fighting, but some parts are pretty difficult
Is it worth it at full price? I mean, if you like that genre then yeah, it's a solid 8.5/10
For casual gamers, I doubt it has much appeal, especially at launch price #7 Oh hey, more Chinese soul-slop. Yay. Why are they so obsessed with this genre? Like, even their lower budget indie scene, not just big projects like these.
