The campaign early access went live for pre-order customers on October 16, and at the time of writing, 1,630 of the game's 1,812 Steam user reviews are positive, giving it a "Very Positive" score of 90%. Insider Gaming first spotted the trend when the game had around 900 reviews and a SteamDB rating of 81.15%, which already made it the best-received Call of Duty on Steam since 2015's Black Ops III. The review count has more than doubled since then, and the positive share has climbed to 85.78% at the time of writing. Of course, these are early days. The current reviews come from players who pre-ordered to play the campaign a week early, so they are probably the most enthusiastic part of the audience.

Still, the last few releases fared much worse by comparison. SteamDB rates Black Ops 7 at 38.71%, Black Ops 6 at 45.75%, Modern Warfare III at 48.19%, and Modern Warfare II at 47.10%, while Black Ops III still leads the modern games at 84.36%. SteamDB's formula pulls games with fewer reviews closer to 50%, so as more positive reviews come in, Modern Warfare 4 could leave Black Ops III in the rearview mirror fairly soon. Multiplayer and DMZ only arrive with the full launch on October 23, and the score could look quite different once the wider player base jumps in. PC players should also keep in mind that TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are mandatory to jump into the action. Sources: SteamDB, via Insider Gaming

We have been a failed species for a long time. Speaking of which, time to go for my evening walk so I can breathe in that nice pollution from the turbines of the AI data center 10 miles from my house. AH, lovely! #4

Funnily enough might be one of the best CoD games along with MW2019.
The main problem with CoD is that it comes out every year for 70 bucks, if they just made one every 3-4 years with all the improvements at once and bigger campaign and more content, people wouldn't complain.

For people that play, they have been improving the mechanics and systems(outside of match making) of the game continuously since 2013, with some major jumps in quality being 2013, 2019, 2022, 2024 and now 2026, but they don't make enough improvements to justify yearly releases, nor do they have enough content, and at full price at that. If we got a new game in 2013, then 2016, then 2019, then 2022 and now 2026, but each with content equaling the sum total of the years we didn't get a CoD, it would have been just about right. #5

I have always bought COD for the multiplayer aspect and when you can feel the sbmm and eomm slowly strangling you as you are trying to progress and level up it gets to the point where if you go online for fun, you run out of fun and it becomes battle of who's taken the most add meds.

As for this COD being the best modern COD, nobody has even played MP yet and are solely rating it on a campaign mode. Oh dear.

It peaked for me at Advanced Warfare and Black Ops 2. Someone shoot COD in the face and put it out of its misery. #6 Might be worth checking out down the track. I am a patient gamer – I only recently picked up WWII and MW (2019) because those are supposed to have decent single player campaigns. I read the follow up games are a bit lacklustre on that front by comparison. #7

I played the open beta, what do you mean nobody has played it?

BO2 was the first CoD with repetitive 3 tunnel map design becoming the norm(though it still had some interesting maps), horrible gun, perk, streak, equipment and attachment balance, Treyarch dropped the ball with BO2, BO3(outside of zombies) and BO4, not to mention BO7, but that was a rushed game, BO6 was great. #8 Ah, that's good news....

It's not at all a mystery to me though. #9 Wasn't expecting that.

Sadly, I refunded the game after the beta because I don't feel like playing games at all right now. I might buy it on sale though. #10

SBMM in general is awful, it makes games extremely unfun, casual games are way better. #11

They had on the BO7 beta a "Reduced sbmm" playlist too apparently only for them to crank it back up for the full release that I purchased and got hoodwinked by.

As for BO6 being great, with its actual meat grinder maps and the AI slop 6 fingered Santa as well as the weapons you could only get by pouring every second you had spare to grinding the fuck out the game, thats not good COD but you also choose to find fault with what is the most beloved COD? You okay kid?

COD has some of my favourite gaming memories attached to it so I'm not a hater, I just want to be able to play and have fun but with the way they make COD now, trying to force you to grind your nuts off to get anywhere, they've lost a customer in me. #12 just started campaign, looks real nice, runs smooth as melted butter, #13 It's in early access. It's absolutely normal to get good reviews from diehards. #14 I feel like this title is pretty well optimized.

Can't wait to play! #15 It would be nice if the matchmaking also factored in playstyle. Being a "run around and shoot players" type while constantly having 30-50% of the players in my matches use a "hide, don't move, and listen for footsteps at 100% volume" playstyle can make the game quite tiring. #16 I do hope they fix the raytracing on this game. It's implementation is terrible. Add your own comment
