Sunday, September 13th 2026 Diablo 5 Officially Revealed at BlizzCon 2026, Arrives Spring 2029 by DrUsmanSaleem Sunday, 09:18 Discuss (63 Comments) Blizzard has officially announced Diablo 5 at BlizzCon 2026, confirming a Spring 2029 release window for the next mainline entry in its action RPG series. The reveal came during the event's opening ceremony alongside a cinematic marking Diablo's 30th anniversary. According to game director Joe Shely, the story picks up a century after Diablo 4, and this time Sanctuary has already fallen. Diablo has won, and it looks like players will be dealing with the aftermath rather than trying to stop it from happening. That's certainly a departure from how past entries have opened.

Diablo 5 is set to be the first mainline game built around a post-apocalyptic Sanctuary from the start, and a follow-up panel added that it will launch with the Demon Hunter and Monk returning, plus a new class called the Plague Knight. Blizzard hasn't said much about gameplay beyond that, so it's hard to say yet how the survival premise will actually play out mechanically. Diablo 4 isn't going anywhere in the meantime. Blizzard says it will keep supporting the game until Diablo 5 arrives, with an Amazon class pack planned for 2027. Three years is a long runway before launch, though BlizzCon teasers like this one usually mean at least a few updates trickle out along the way. Source: Diablo on YouTube

#1 I thought AI was quicker at making games than that... #2 11 years between the release of Diablo 3 and Diablo 4.

Now Diablo 5 is set to release only 6 years after Diablo 4?

Only a few more years until we get an Annual Release Diablo game.

But in all seriousness... meh?

I've been happy playing all ARPG's that HAVEN'T been Diablo the past 10 years. Path of Exile, Grim Dawn, Last Epoch and more recently Path of Exile 2. The total money I've paid to play those 4 games has probably been about the equivalent or less of Diablo 4 and it's latest DLC($110). I've considered buying the base Diablo 4 more recently, but reading about it, it looks like Blizzard made the bone-headed decision to lock progression content behind the DLC, so... not so interested anymore. #3 not sure how i feel about this... diablo 4 without diablo, maybe they didn't like the monetization system from diablo 4 and want to go a different route to make more. how different is it from diablo 4's system and it couldn't have been modified to include it with its past, present stuff as a next step of the game. i do hope the fundamentals of the game are different enough so its not like overwatch 1 to 2 then back to 1 kind of crap. #4

havent played a single Diablo game since Diablo 2 and have no interest in Blizzard games anymore. #5 Already got burned by Diablo 4 ruining any concept of fun via the stupid constant enemy scaling and a number of questionable nerfs. There's never a point where I can feel god-like compared to DIII and DII; instead, I feel like I'm just stuck on an eternal treadmill just to eke out slightly more damage to new spongy enemies, before hitting the maximum limit and just feeling like I'm playing the game the same way I started. #6 I wish I would be excited about it. But between the woke stuff happening at Blizzard and the arcade feeling I got from the 3rd and fourth, I'm desperate to ever feel like I did when I played D1 and D2. One thing for sure; I will not buy it blind like I used to...

Edit: Why are you editing "woke" out of my message? Please don't transform my messages. If you feel I'm breaking the rules, then delete it altogether. I'm rather surprised that this would be considered an issue?! #7 I am more excited for World of Warcraft Forever but that Starcraft cinematic was sick AF #8 I'm a junkie. I'll buy it and play it. After being here for 51 years. Life is short. Don't bitch so much cause it can be a lot worse. I don't have time to sit idle and be grumpy. I'm just gonna have a blast and check out and cruise the stars with good ole Jesus. The enemy scaling is dumb though. I wish they never did that. Starcraft 3? Oh hell yes! #9 Yeah great chance of skipping this, last one had a totally shit story and really bad mission progress.

All so that was the worsed trailer i ever soon in a Diablo game and on top of that i don't really want to buy a game multiple times.

Is Diablo going to be in his own game this time ?. #10 I forgot they even made a Diablo IV.... #11

Watching that trailer for WOW:Forever, it just made me realize that in 22 years of this game, the graphics is basically the same that can be run on a GeForce 2 or a Radeon HD. Seriously, I know they want to keep the same visuals, but common..... #12 Though a fan of D1 and D2, I still haven't played the modern entries. Don't care for D3—it looks like Warcraft—but D4 has the proper gothic-horror presentation, and I hope to give it a go, eventually. If it's no good, the excellent D2R still exists. #13

Same! I am a huge fan of diablo-likes, with the only exception being diablo.

Well okay except the first one I actually love that game. And its not like I hate the second one, but I couldn't help but notice like both graphics and atmosphere got a downgrade, but the scope was drastically increased. I've never finished it. It just makes me want to play diablo 1 again. And anything after 2 is a big fat Noooooooo thanks. #14

D2's horror atmosphere was noticeably toned down compared to the first. #15 2029?
#16 Blizzard wasn't making much money with Diablo IV so they're releasing Diablo V. It's a bit soon for another Diablo release, but Diablo IV did suck really badly. #17

It was the 6th best selling game of 2023 by dollar sales in the US (nearly 700 million in the first week) and made over 1 billion during it's first 18 months of release. If that isnt successful then the bar must be extremely high for what a game needs to do sales wise to be considered a success.

D5 is like entirely about Diablo and the chaos/destruction he caused.
From what we know so far D5 takes place in a destroyed Sanctuary where Diablo came back and won so he wont just be the final boss but a big part of the whole thing/story/world.

Sorry but then you were doing something wrong in D4, it has the same if not more completely overpowered builds than D2/D3 and you can stomp the entire endgame with those with no issues.
I usually play 50-80 hours/season when I get back to it and by the time I'm done with my character build there is nothing in the game that can stop it other than pushing really high lvl Rifts.

Same here, I've always managed to get my money's worth from every single Diablo game so far so I will do the same with this if I'm still around to play the game.

Btw they are most likely dropping the open world style they had in D4 and going back to a more D2/3/PoE style generated maps or so and supposedly they are also going back to D2/Poe style itemization but thats still early to say + they are also debating on bringing back stat requirements #19

Play POE 2. Thank me later. Contender for best game ever. The campaign itself it freaking nuts. #20

Same, but I also have a lot of friends to play it with.

Diablo 3 got free updates for a decade

Not a huge fan of POE2, I liked part one. I haven't played it in a while might give it another shot this year when it comes out of early access. I had already dropped it but I remember there being a ton of backlash during their Dawn of the hunt BS decided to wait for the final release after that, glad you think they recovered from that. #21

Is it worth getting Diablo 4 Standard? Right now, it's at 75% discount on Steam, and I was thinking about buying it. Haven't played 3; don't intend to. #22

I'm mainly a solo player nowadays cause I just like to play at my own pace but I do have 2 friends who I sometimes play ARPG/Looter shooters with so both works for me.

I'm also not exactly a big fan of PoE in general, I gave it multiple chances and it just doesn't click with me for some reason.
When I'm not playing one of the Diablo games but gotta scratch the ARGP itch then I'm playing Grim Dawn or lately Titan Quest 2 which is shaping up to be a nice old school style ARPG like the first game was.

Honestly for that price even if all you want to do is to play thru the story then its not bad deal cause the story is pretty long for an ARPG.
First expansion was kind of so-so story wise but the second one was quite good imo so those might worth picking up later during a sale. #23

Yes, coming from D2 twenty years ago, I'm mainly interested in the story and the return to the dark horror setting in 4. #24

I can't get any of my friends to stick with it and I honestly only like playing these games with buddies. I've never been able to grind an ARPG solo going back to diablo 2. I was fine in D1 though but i was much younger and videogames were not nearly as popular back then with my buddies.

They all have mortgages and familys so anything too grindy isn't gonna happen. I will give it a shot with my Brother when its out of early access. I'm not a huge fan of early access when it comes to any game though.

For less than a value meal at a fastfood place in CA it's probably worth a shot. The recent season a lot of people did not like but it was sitting at like 75% with 20k reviews on steam. For just the single player you will either love it or hate it. My casual buddies all liked the story. #25

2 billion or bust I guess....
Microsoft expects a lot back from xbox after those huge acquisitions, what was it? 60 billion on just activision-blizzard alone, and there were more too.... So to get that money back they slashing expenses by shutting studios down or letting them go fend for themselves (least they have a chance that way.) But think about that.... hahaha... what a mess this decade has been. And right now xbox looks the like good guy vs playstation's rapidly degrading reputation. Xbox basically has to do nothing to win ( in the mind of gamers anyway... sony has already won this gen console wise.) Add your own comment
