Netflix has like three good documentaries every year. For dedicated documentary lovers, that's nothing. If you want to really get your fix on educational content and soothing narration, check out Curiosity Stream. This dedicated documentary streaming platform doesn't even charge a monthly fee. Instead, you can get a lifetime subscription on sale for $149.99 (reg. $399.99).
Thousands of documentaries at your fingertips, forever
Curiosity Stream came from John Hendricks, the same person who built Discovery Communications, so the documentary pedigree runs deep. This library spans science, technology, history, nature, and art, with thousands of titles and fresh ones added every week. That's a lot of rabbit holes for people who like their television to teach them something.
The service also has an Emmy to brag about. Stephen Hawking's Favorite Places won a News & Documentary Emmy for graphic design and art direction, and the trilogy follows Hawking piloting a computer-generated ship called the S.S. Hawking around the cosmos. If a physicist steering a fictional spacecraft through real astrophysics sounds like your kind of evening, this is the place for it.
All of this streams in 1080p across phones, tablets, TVs, and game consoles like the Xbox One. Download titles for offline viewing on a flight, bookmark a show mid-episode, and resume it later on a different device. Series like Planet of Treasures, Deep Time History, and Into the Jungle give you a sense of the range, and the catalog runs well past those few. Sir David Attenborough is there too. He's just waiting for a chance to tell you about cool glowing animals.
One practical note. You have to redeem your code within 30 days of purchase, so don't let it gather dust in your inbox.
