“Will become a reliable nest for foreigners settling in”… Mino Mato Ru, CEO of AI settlement care platform 'Nestia'
South Korea is passing through an unprecedented demographic turning point. While the annual number of births has plummeted by 49% over the past 12 years and the working-age population has shrunk sharply, the number of legally residing foreigners in the country has exceeded 2.65 million. Attracting foreign talent is no longer a matter of choice but has established itself as an essential strategy for national survival. In fact, the Korean government has devoted significant effort to recruiting overseas talent, investing over 419.1 billion won in large-scale funding over the past four years alone into major scholarship programs for foreigners, such as the 'Global Korea Scholarship (GKS).' However, a deep structural gap exists between this policy investment and the reality on the ground. Of the 36,271 international students graduating from domestic universities, 63.0% hope to settle in Korea, but only 4,993 (13.8%) actually secure domestic employment and maintain their residency status. On the other hand, the number of undocumented (illegal) foreign students who miss the deadline for changing their status of residence due to a lack of information or violate work restriction regulations by visa type amounts to about 34,000 per year.
For natives born and raised in Korea, presenting a resident registration card, visiting a local clinic, opening a bank account, or dining at a restaurant are perfectly natural daily routines. However, for foreigners unfamiliar with the language and systems, even trivial daily activities can feel like unpredictable barriers. A vicious cycle repeats itself where financial transactions are blocked because the Alien Registration Card is not linked to the mobile phone account, and patients avoid treatment for common ailments like colds or body aches because they cannot find primary care clinics where English is spoken, other than expensive international medical centers at large hospitals. There is a startup that has stepped forward to fill this settlement gap, which is difficult to perceive from the perspective of natives, through technology and field experience.
I met Mino Matot Lou, the French founder and CEO of Yawabi Corp., which developed 'Nestia,' an all-in-one settlement care platform tailored for foreigners.

The Sense of Isolation Faced in a Strange Land Became the Seed of a Startup
Representative Lu first set foot on Korean soil about two and a half years ago on a working holiday visa. He recalled that upon arriving in Seoul all alone, he faced a sense of isolation stemming from language barriers and an unfamiliar administrative system.
Representative Lu stated that immediately after arriving in Korea, she felt at a loss due to her lack of knowledge of the rules, and the most painful experience was having to delay treatment until her condition worsened because she could not bring herself to visit a local clinic where communication in English was difficult when she was sick. She added that she had to handle complex administrative procedures entirely on her own, ranging from daily activities like dining out and socializing to opening bank accounts, paying taxes, and managing her residency status.
Determined to help other foreigners avoid the trial and error he experienced, he applied for the Ministry of Justice's technology startup support program for foreigners, 'OASIS.' He stated that he subsequently laid the groundwork for establishing a formal corporation after being selected as an outstanding technology startup item at 'OASIS Incheon (Incheon Technopark),' a government-certified startup competition.

Centralization of Fragmented Information… AI-Based Proactive Roadmap
The existing foreign settlement market was a mix of Facebook groups, social media communities, and high-cost visa agencies. However, there were limitations due to fragmented information, which required direct searching or led to administrative errors caused by reliance on unofficial advice.
CEO Lu emphasized that Nestia's core differentiator is systematically gathering highly reliable, publicly available information scattered across foreign communities onto a single platform and providing it for free. Nestia reorganizes and offers over 120 tasks to be completed according to visa type and stage of stay—ranging from tourists and international students to job seekers and entrepreneurs—in the form of 'to-do lists.'
They also introduced AI technology based on Lightweight Language Models (LLM) that recommends customized itineraries by multidimensionally analyzing users' nationality, purpose of stay, and residential experience during the onboarding survey process. However, they explained that regarding visas and administrative guidelines, which carry significant legal force, they strictly verify and incorporate only public data and accredited guidelines directly to prevent AI errors (illusions).

Building a B2B preventive solution connecting universities and foreigners
Nestia distributes a free mobile app for general foreigners and generates initial revenue through affiliate fees with local partners and 1:1 startup consulting for foreigners. As its next revenue model, it is preparing a B2B dashboard and license supply targeting domestic universities.
CEO Lu stated that every year, universities suffer damages when their international student recruitment management certifications are revoked due to administrative errors, such as international students violating regulations on permitted part-time work hours (e.g., a maximum of 25 hours per week) or missing the deadline for visa changes. The strategy is to simultaneously manage university dropout rates and reduce administrative costs by supporting students through the Nestia B2B Dashboard to ensure they comply with regulations in advance and successfully complete tasks such as National Health Insurance enrollment.
Currently, Yawabi has secured a tax and legal advisory system through a strategic partnership with VisaBridge, a company specializing in foreign visas and startups, and is proving its business competitiveness by advancing to the final stage (40 companies) of the 'K-Startup Grand Challenge'.
Toward the 'North Star' of the Global Immigration and Settlement Market
The company name 'Nestia' is derived from the symbol of a 'nest,' where a bird incubates its eggs, and the 'North Star,' which illuminates unfamiliar paths. It embodies the aspiration to help those seeking to settle in new lands establish a comfortable home without losing their way.
CEO Lu has set the primary goal of growing Nestia into the first platform that foreigners entering Korea look for during the settlement process. Subsequently, based on the service experience accumulated in Korea, he plans to expand the service to countries with high demand for immigration and settlement, including Montreal, Canada, as well as Japan, Thailand, and France.
The problem that Nestia seeks to solve does not end with bringing foreigners to Korea. Even if the government and universities invest significant resources and effort into attracting overseas talent, it is difficult for them to settle down if daily issues such as visas, employment, medical care, finance, and housing are not resolved after their arrival. The figures in the introduction, which show that while many international students wish to continue living in Korea , the rate of actual employment and residency is low, ultimately demonstrate that "settlement after recruitment" is another challenge.
CEO Lu also had to tackle everything firsthand when he first arrived in Korea as a foreigner, from finding a hospital to opening a bank account, paying taxes, and managing his residency status. Starting from his personal experience, Nestia is now expanding its scope as a service that informs foreigners of what they need to do at each stage of their stay before they have to wander around searching for necessary information on their own, and provides universities with management tools to reduce administrative delays among international students.
Just as important as attracting overseas talent is creating an environment where people who come to Korea can live, work, and stay. Reducing the gaps that occur in the process from attracting foreigners to their settlement is the problem that a French entrepreneur, who has been settled in Korea for two and a half years, is solving through Nestia.

Mino Mato Ru
