Subscribe to 'Senior Expert Experience' Instead of Hiring… ReLa.LAB, Created by BesideMe CEO Minjeong Kang
As a startup grows, it requires more personnel. When preparing for investment, a CFO with finance and investment experience is needed, and when anticipating overseas expansion, a global business expert must be sought. After launching a product, marketing and sales capabilities become crucial, and as the organization expands, new challenges regarding HR and organizational management arise.
The problem is that it is difficult for early-stage startups to hire such specialized personnel whenever needed. In particular, recruiting C-level experts full-time who have accumulated know-how through trial and error at various companies is costly, and hiring itself can be inefficient if the skills are required only for specific projects or growth stages.
On the other hand, there are senior professionals who have accumulated extensive corporate experience and are leaving the workforce. Although they have led organizations for decades and personally solved problems in business, sales, marketing, finance, and human resources, there are few opportunities to continue utilizing that experience after retirement.
'ReLa.LAB,' operated by BsideMe, connects companies and senior experts with their respective problems through a subscription model. Instead of directly hiring experts, companies utilize the experience and capabilities they currently need for a set period, while senior experts use their careers and know-how to solve new corporate issues. The basic structure of the service involves analyzing corporate challenges through AI diagnostics, recommending suitable experts, and connecting the entire process from consultation to actual project execution.

Finding an opportunity between a retiring senior and a company needing experience
At the starting point of ReLa.LAB lay the changes that CEO Minjeong Kang had observed while working in companies for about 20 years. Working in various organizations—including distribution, commerce, and brand companies with a focus on marketing—he collaborated with experts from diverse fields, and over time, he witnessed highly experienced personnel, such as senior vice presidents, executive vice presidents, and CEOs, leaving the field one by one.
While retirees sometimes gave lectures or served as advisors to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), opportunities to continuously utilize the expertise and problem-solving experience they had accumulated over a long period in the corporate world were limited. On the other hand, the startup and SME CEOs that CEO Kang met faced a variety of challenges ranging from marketing and sales to organizational management and product strategy; while they needed experienced personnel to resolve these issues, the cost of directly hiring executive-level experts was prohibitive.
“Watching my seniors retire, I thought it was a great waste to let their knowledge and experience go to waste. Conversely, small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners were in need of that very experience. I believed that connecting these two groups could create a new market.”
Based on this awareness of the problem, CEO Kang founded BsideMe in October 2024. He did not initially envision an expert subscription service like the current one. While it started as a service to support the daily lives of seniors, he redefined the problems to be solved with customers through various acceleration programs and market validation. Focusing on the potential for companies in need to utilize the experience of senior experts accumulated by corporations for a certain period, he refined the business model into the current 'ReLa.LAB'.
Subscribe to 'necessary experiences' rather than people.
The expertise required by startups continuously changes depending on their stage of growth. If they are preparing to raise investment, finance and investment experience are necessary, while marketing and sales experience are crucial when launching a new product. As they enter global markets or expand their organization, other areas of expertise, such as global business and HR, become required.
Instead of resolving all roles required at a specific time through recruitment, ReLa.LAB provides services such as short-term consulting, long-term projects, fractional C-Level staff, replacement personnel, and expert project teams to enable companies to leverage the experience needed for their current challenges for a set period.

In fact, one commerce company was connected with an expert who had experience as a sales director through a subscription model costing approximately 2 million won per month. The expert visited the company once a week and communicated with management online to review sales strategies and organizational operations. Over the course of about three months, the expert revamped the internal operational system by defining organizational roles and responsibilities (R&R) and establishing a KPI dashboard. This differed from simply receiving advice for a set period in that the system created by the expert remained within the company even after the contract ended.
ReLa.LAB is also directly utilizing this model. They have subscribed to a C-level expert—a former executive from a major corporation—as the 'Head of Mentor' to oversee expert management and program development. In essence, the service provider is simultaneously leveraging expert subscriptions from the customer's perspective and applying them to actual organizational operations.
CEO Kang said, “Even if early-stage startups need experienced C-level executives, it is not easy to hire them directly,” adding, “We also confirmed through our own experience utilizing experts that subscribing to the necessary roles and experiences is very helpful for actual company operations and growth.”
Ultimately, the question ReLa.LAB poses to companies is closer to "what experience does our company need right now?" than "who should we hire?" The core of the expert subscription model lies in selectively utilizing external experience based on the company's situation and stage of growth, rather than keeping all necessary expertise within the organization.
From executives of major corporations to CEOs… We gathered 'people who have solved problems'.
When CEO Kang built the pool of experts, what he considered important was not job titles or age itself, but the experience of actually leading organizations and solving problems in the corporate field.
Since our goal was to solve real corporate problems, we gathered experts primarily based on their experience in organizational leadership roles. As a result, many individuals with experience as senior executives, CEOs, or C-level managers naturally participated.
The 'senior expert' defined by ReLa.LAB is also not distinguished simply by age. It refers to highly experienced personnel, primarily in their 40s to 60s, who have accumulated extensive practical and organizational management experience within companies and can utilize this to solve problems in other companies.
In the early stages of the service, approximately 30 experts were secured based on CEO Kang's network, but as the tasks requested by companies diversified, the scope of expertise expanded accordingly. Starting with a focus on marketing and sales, the service has now expanded to 11 fields, including HR, finance, global operations, and even EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) for manufacturing sites, with about 120 experts currently active. It has also reflected the demand for new expertise required in the corporate field, such as responding to serious accidents and safety management.

Companies can directly check the key careers and areas of expertise of experts on the ReLa.LAB website. CEO Kang aims to secure problem-solving experience across diverse fields to the extent that startup CEOs naturally think of ReLa.LAB the moment they need expert help while running their businesses.
“I hope that the moment startup CEOs realize they need expert help with a particular area while running their businesses, they will naturally think, ‘ReLa.LAB has an expert in that field.’ I want to build a service where senior experts from various disciplines can provide practical solutions to help companies overcome roadblocks.”
AI analyzes corporate concerns and finds 3 'necessary experts'
As the number of experts increases, finding the right person for a company's problems becomes increasingly important. This is because even among marketing or finance experts, the necessary experience varies depending on the company's stage of growth and the challenges currently to be addressed.
To this end, ReLa.LAB has implemented an AI-based corporate diagnostic and expert recommendation system. When a company inputs its current business status and concerns, the AI analyzes the content to refine the issues and identify the necessary experience and capabilities. For instance, even with the same concern—such as "seeking investment"—a company requiring financial statement management may need experts with different backgrounds than one needing funding, business planning, or investor relations.

ReLa.LAB is enhancing its recommendation system by structuring experts' careers, capabilities, and key achievements, and proposes three expert candidates with a high degree of suitability to a company's problems through AI analysis and internal review. Rather than a job-position-based matching system that simply connects a CFO to financial issues and a CMO to marketing issues, the focus is on linking the problems an expert has directly solved in the past with the company's current challenges.
The process from the corporate diagnosis to the stage where three experts are recommended is free; afterward, users can select a desired expert to conduct a one-hour online one-on-one meeting. Consulting fees begin at this stage, during which the company explains its current situation in more detail and discusses potential solutions with the experts.
CEO Kang explained, “Since it is difficult to fully grasp a company’s situation based solely on a corporate diagnostic report, we place great importance on the process of direct dialogue with experts,” adding, “We aim to understand as deeply as possible what kind of help the company actually needs in the early stages and connect them with the appropriate experts.”
Subsequently, the scope of the service varies depending on the company's specific task. If a direction is found through a one-time consultation, the service can be terminated; if regular management is required, it can be switched to a subscription; and if tangible deliverables are needed, it can be expanded into a long-term project or separate tasks.
From advisory to C-level executives and project teams… the scope of participation varies depending on the company.
ReLa.LAB’s approach to utilizing experts is divided according to the company’s problems and required timeframe. For cases requiring judgment on specific management issues, short-term consulting sessions of approximately 1 to 4 times are available, while tasks requiring concrete deliverables, such as new business strategies, brand building, or sales system improvements, are conducted as long-term projects typically lasting 4 to 12 weeks.
For companies that require executive roles, we offer Fractional C-Level positions where experts with experience as COO, CMO, or CFO participate on a part-time basis. If a vacancy arises due to key personnel leaving their post or resigning, experts with relevant experience may participate as replacements for 1 to 12 months.
If a problem involves multiple interdisciplinary areas such as marketing, branding, distribution, and sales, a project team composed of several experts is formed. In one actual brand launch project, an expert diagnosed the brand direction and established a strategy; however, as the company requested execution, the project scope was expanded by adding personnel to handle website construction and online marketing.
Companies often have to find a vendor to execute the plan after receiving advice. If the company desires, we aim to connect the project to actual implementation rather than stopping at the consultation.
The point where ReLa.LAB aims to differentiate itself from general expert matching or advisory services is that it can vary the level of expert participation depending on whether a company needs an hour of advice, an executive to work with for several months, or a project team to produce results.
Transforming senior careers into 'problem-solving experiences'
Another pillar of ReLa.LAB is not only supplying experts to companies but also helping senior professionals expand their experience into new activities. On the website, experts directly operate seminars, workshops, and training programs based on their fields of expertise.

The purpose is not to stop at merely introducing past titles and years of service, such as "former executive" or "20 years of experience," but to demonstrate how that experience can be used to solve current problems. An expert with experience in fashion brand sales can organize a seminar based on the know-how gained during the sales growth process, while an expert with experience in overseas distribution can create a program outlining the strategies necessary for entering global markets.
From a company's perspective, seminars and workshops allow them to experience the expertise and problem-solving methods of professionals before selecting them based solely on their resumes, while for seniors, it provides an opportunity to transform their extensive experience into new forms of professional services, such as seminars, consulting, and projects.
CEO Kang emphasizes that experts should be able to continue new activities by leveraging their experience and expertise even after retirement. ReLa.LAB also places significance on branding experts based on "what corporate problems they can solve with that experience" rather than "where they worked in the past," and on supporting their accumulated experience so that it can be utilized again in the market.
Over 300 Experts, Becoming a 'Brand Accelerator'
One of ReLa.LAB's top priorities for the second half of 2026 is to expand its pool of senior experts from the current 120 to 300. Rather than focusing solely on increasing numbers, the plan is to subdivide fields based on the actual needs of startups and small and medium-sized enterprises, and to secure experts with problem-solving experience in each area.
We also consider it important to create real-world case studies of corporate problem-solving alongside the supply of experts. This is based on the judgment that the expert subscription market can only be established when cases accumulate where companies utilizing experts have solved actual problems and moved on to the next stage of growth, rather than simply relying on the number of experts registered on the platform or client companies.
The next step being envisioned is the 'Brand Accelerator (BRAND.LAB).' Leveraging the network of senior experts established so far, it supports the entire growth process of startups and brand companies, combining the practical skills and execution capabilities of experts with extensive field experience with existing acceleration programs focused on investment and mentoring.
The structure involves experts in the relevant field during the brand strategy formulation phase, and then deploys specialists appropriate for each stage as the company's challenges shift to product planning, distribution, marketing and sales, or global expansion. The aim is to expand the scope of expert subscriptions to cover the entire course of corporate growth, enabling companies to leverage external experience without having to directly hire all the C-level executives and specialized personnel required at every stage of development.
This is also the market that CEO Kang ultimately wants to create. It is a market where, when a company faces a problem, instead of first considering "who to hire," it determines "what experience we need right now" and works with someone who possesses that experience for the required duration.
Experience accumulated over decades at a company does not disappear simply because someone retires. Conversely, not every startup needs to hire someone with that experience as a full-time employee. On one hand, there is experience that can still be utilized, while on the other, there are problems that require that experience. What CEO Minjeong Kang aims to create through ReLa.LAB is to bridge this gap, providing seniors with the opportunity to utilize their expertise again, and offering startups the option to solve problems alongside experienced individuals when needed.

Lira Lab

Lila Lab

Lila Lab
Lira Lab
Lila Lab

Lila Lab
