Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) has staged an impressive recovery since reaching a multi-month low earlier this spring. The electric vehicle maker has climbed more than 30% since early April and is now trading near $440 a share, reclaiming levels that seemed distant only a few weeks ago.

Much of the recent optimism has centered on Tesla’s long-term opportunities in full self-driving technology, robotaxis, and the Optimus humanoid robot program. While those themes remain key pillars of the investment case, a new discussion is beginning to gain traction among investors—one that could dramatically reshape how Tesla is valued in the years ahead.

Speculation Around SpaceX Is Gathering Momentum

Recent weeks have seen growing reports suggesting Elon Musk has explored the idea of combining Tesla with SpaceX (NASDAQ:SPCX), his privately held aerospace and satellite business.

The prospect has captured attention because SpaceX is widely expected to pursue a public listing in the near future, in what could become the largest IPO ever completed. Any move linking the two companies would create one of the world’s largest and most influential technology enterprises.

Among those embracing the possibility is Wedbush analyst Dan Ives, one of Tesla’s most vocal supporters. In a recent research note, he estimated there is an 80% to 90% probability that a merger could occur by early 2027. According to Ives, Musk’s broader strategy increasingly revolves around controlling a larger portion of the artificial intelligence ecosystem, and integrating Tesla with SpaceX would represent a logical extension of that vision.

Musk’s Corporate Playbook Offers Clues

The theory carries weight not simply because of market speculation, but because of Musk’s history of linking his businesses together over time.

Beyond the frequent movement of engineering talent between his companies, Musk has repeatedly demonstrated a willingness to consolidate assets and operations across his corporate network.

Earlier this year, Tesla invested $2 billion in xAI, Musk’s artificial intelligence venture. That company had previously acquired X, formerly known as Twitter, after Musk purchased the social media platform. More recently, SpaceX acquired xAI, creating an increasingly interconnected web of ownership and strategic interests.

As a result, Tesla investors already have indirect exposure to SpaceX-related assets despite the absence of a formal merger.

The connections extend beyond ownership structures. The companies are also collaborating on the development of the Terafab semiconductor manufacturing facility, which is expected to produce advanced chips for multiple Musk-led enterprises.

Taken together, these developments suggest a growing level of integration that some investors view as groundwork for a larger corporate combination.

Why Supporters Find the Idea Compelling

For Tesla enthusiasts, the attraction of a merger is easy to understand.

SpaceX contributes a dominant launch business, the rapidly expanding Starlink satellite network, and access to AI capabilities through its links to xAI. Tesla, meanwhile, brings large-scale manufacturing expertise, energy storage operations, electric vehicle leadership, and ambitious robotics programs.

The resulting organization would combine capabilities across transportation, energy, communications, artificial intelligence, computing, and space exploration.

Dan Ives has described such a scenario as the “holy grail” of Musk’s empire-building ambitions. Viewed collectively, the assets would create an exceptionally broad technology platform spanning multiple high-growth industries.

Significant Obstacles Remain

Despite the excitement surrounding the concept, substantial hurdles would need to be overcome.

Questions persist regarding SpaceX’s reported valuation, with some critics arguing that estimates approaching $1.7 trillion are difficult to justify. Musk also faces the challenge of successfully executing a potential SpaceX IPO before contemplating a transaction of even greater complexity.

Prediction markets remain considerably more cautious than some Wall Street analysts. Current market-implied odds place the likelihood of a Tesla-SpaceX merger before May 2027 at roughly one-third.

Valuation concerns represent another challenge. Both companies command premium multiples, and any merger would involve complex negotiations around ownership, governance, and shareholder value.

Regulatory scrutiny would likely be intense, and a transaction of this scale could face legal challenges and resistance from investors on multiple fronts.

A Possibility Investors Cannot Ignore

Whether a merger ultimately materializes remains uncertain. However, the increasing financial, operational, and strategic connections between Musk’s businesses have made the discussion more difficult to dismiss.

For investors who believe in Musk’s long-term vision, the prospect of a deeper relationship between Tesla and SpaceX may no longer seem as far-fetched as it once did.

While many obstacles stand in the way, the idea has evolved from market rumor to a scenario that some on Wall Street are beginning to seriously consider.

https://futurism.com/advanced-transport/tesla-insiders-self-driving-disaster

It turns out not even the people building Tesla’s self-driving tech trust Elon Musk’s extravagant claims about the company’s autonomous vehicles.

New reporting by Reuters interviewed nine former data labelers and a former self-driving engineer about their take on Tesla’s Full Self-Driving mode. The results were overwhelmingly negative, with seven of the data specialists admitting they wouldn’t ride in a Tesla in FSD.

“We have all seen it fail,” one Tesla insider told Reuters. “Definitely don’t trust Elon on this,” the self-driving engineer concurred, referencing Musks’ declaration that the the vehicles are ready for “safe unsupervised” rides.

One erstwhile worker told the publication they wouldn’t ride in a Tesla robotaxi “if you f**king paid me.”

At least five data labelers, whose job was to comb through hours of FSD footage to train the vehicle’s software to avoid past mistakes, told Reuters they routinely saw clips of Teslas driving above the speed limit, an issue which engineers and managers treated like a low-priority compared to edge-case issues.

Those glowing recommendations come amidst concerns that Tesla’s FSD mode may never be truly safe enough for public roads.

In recent months, Tesla operating on FSD move have driven riders into lakes, off bridges, and even into the path of oncoming trains — and those are just the incidents that get media exposure. Given these insiders’ direct access to terabytes’ worth of proprietary FSD footage, we’re inclined to take their word on it.

👍️0 zen222 zen222 20 hours ago Elon's broken promises and new ones destined to disappoint

It's been over seven years since Elon Musk lied to investors and customers at Tesla Autonomy Day in 2019, where he promised:

❌ 1 million Tesla Robotaxis by 2020

❌ $30,000 a year for Tesla owners from their cars operating as Robotaxis

❌ A $38,000 Model 3 would appreciate to $200,000

❌ A drivetrain that would last 1 million miles with minimal maintenance

During Tesla's Q1 2026 earnings call, Musk made similarly fantastic claims, which also won't come true.

A Tesla Cybertruck ran a stop sign before a messy crash with a ballpark shuttle near 25th and State streets on Saturday evening.

Investigators said the Who's on Third bar shuttle was traveling west on State Street when the Cybertruck ran the stop sign.

Police said the driver told officers on the scene that the vehicle was in autopilot mode and they tried to override it by pressing on the accelerator.

Police said 19 out of the 21 people on the shuttle sustained minor injuries and all of the people in the Cybertruck sustained minor injuries.
This article is incorrect. Cybertrucks do not have autopilot, only FSD. So this accident was caused by FSD. Also, you do not apply the accelerator to disengage it, you would apply the brake. Im noticing a trend like this where media calls Teslas autonomous tech Autopilot to refer to either feature set confusing us readers. At least with Cybertrucks we know its always FSD.

The following collection of accidents (this list is no longer regularly updated but i frequently post similar accidents on my Out of Control Tesla board) will show that Teslas have a sudden veering problem, a problem thats being covered up, in addition to issues of Sudden Unintended Acceleration. These accidents occur regardless of the Teslas being operated by intoxicated drivers, regular drivers, professional drivers, Autopilot, or FSD.
This collection was put together to showcase the core problem is actually hardware related not driver/software. When nearly the same crash elements occurs across a diverse collection of use cases regardless of model & year, the only logical conclusion is that there is something wrong with the vehicles themselves and that they pose a significant danger to society. As I already hinted at, there is an investigation that indicates that Tesla & NHTSA are purposefully withholding information in regards various AP related accidents including these veering Teslas that works to hide such dangers from becoming more apparent...so people do not catch onto this pattern! Ring footage obtained by NBC 7 shows what happened leading up to the crash. The footage shows the Tesla crashing into the back of the Mercedes— both were traveling south on Diane Avenue right before a stop sign. The crash prompted the Mercedes to hit a retaining wall, while the Tesla veered off the roadway, plowing into the fence and into the home's living room.

Five people in the Tesla were hurt, officials said, and one person riding in the Mercedes was injured.
There is something oddly significant not mentioned in this or other articles ive read about this incident. While there were five people in the Tesla including a child, the Tesla was going significantly faster than the speed limit when it collided with the Mercedes and then into the house. You'll only know this by watching the ring camera footage. Meaning this Tesla was suffering Sudden Unintended Acceleration and there was nothing the operator could do about it. This is the big reason to never own a Tesla or other EV as they can suddenly malfunction due to EM interference
You can see ongoing geomagnetic activity starting late on the 26th. Not alot mind you but anything over a 3 seems to increase the odds

This is where Tesla FSD gets really scary.
I was driving to work had Full Self-Driving on. The oncoming car passed, and the wheel started turning rapidly, driving into the ditch, and side-swiping the tree, and the car flipped over. I did not have any time to react
As the two were traveling north on Highway 35 in Thomas County, the Model 3, which was reportedly in self-driving mode at the time, “abruptly departed the road, struck a tree and burst into flames,” the complaint says.

SUA is caused by voltage spikes due to EMI

I'm begging all of you to NEVER get in a Tesla as long as you live. It started accelerating on its own in a parking garage and my dad lost all control of the car and we ran into a wall at 40 mph. Most horrifying experience of my life.
“The movement of the Tesla Model 3 occurred – according to the Tesla EDR records – as the ‘Accelerator Pedal (percent)’ went from 0.0 (with a speed of 63 mph) to 100.0 without any significant change in vehicle speed
But independent experts disagree with the conclusion that the accelerator signal necessarily means the driver’s foot was on the pedal. Simen Huse, one of only five authorized Bosch CDR tool operators in Norway, and researchers from Sintef, argue that electronic malfunctions, software errors, or voltage spikes could produce the same accelerator signal in the data — without the driver ever pressing the pedal.

👍️0 Chartmaster Chartmaster 2 days ago Took my profits on all my TSLL calls today 👍️0 InfiniteGuardian18 InfiniteGuardian18 2 days ago Tesla FSD "Official Announcement" for China Entry: Who Will Truly Benefit?

Just this past May 21st, Tesla officially announced the latest global rollout of its "FSD Supervised" on its official X account, explicitly including China in its availability list for the first time. Combined with management's remarks during the Q1 earnings call aiming for "full approval by the third quarter of 2026," the large-scale launch of FSD in China has shifted from a distant rumor to a literal countdown.
As the ultimate "catfish" in the autonomous driving sector, FSD's entry into China will not only reshape the domestic EV competitive landscape but also trigger a profound valuation reassessment in the capital markets. If FSD successfully secures full approval in the upcoming Q3, which Chinese ADRs in the US market deserve our focus and long-term positioning, besides Tesla itself?
Here is a deep dive into four of the most promising Chinese ADRs across four core dimensions: mapping credentials, technical benchmarking, hardware redundancy, and ecosystem synergy.

1. Baidu ($BIDU): The Irreplaceable Mapping Moat & Robotaxi Catalyst
For Tesla FSD to achieve regulatory compliance in China, the first and most formidable hurdle is data localization and high-definition (HD) mapping credentials. Due to strict domestic regulations on HD mapping and geographic information, foreign automakers cannot independently collect lane-level map data.
?Direct Beneficiary Logic: As a top-tier domestic map provider with Class-A surveying and mapping qualifications, Baidu has long established a close partnership with Tesla. Tesla has not only integrated Baidu’s lane-level navigation, but its future localized FSD road training will also rely heavily on Baidu's underlying mapping support. Once FSD is fully greenlit, Baidu’s cloud services and mapping business will see highly certain, immediate commercial monetization.
?Valuation Catalyst: The market previously viewed Baidu’s Apollo Go (Luobo Kuaipao) and Tesla’s Robotaxi as a zero-sum game. In reality, FSD's compliance path will pave the regulatory way for liability definition and commercial operations of domestic L3/L4 autonomous driving. Once industry standards accelerate due to Tesla's entry, Baidu—as the dominant player with the longest driverless mileage in China—will see its autonomous driving valuation completely rerated.
2. XPeng ($XPEV): The "Vindication Battle" for the Smart Driving Benchmark & Software Subscription Re-evaluation
Among the EV newcomers, XPeng has always worn "smart driving" as its core badge of honor. Its end-to-end large models and XNGP system already possess a massive first-mover advantage in complex domestic urban road conditions.
?Market Share Dividend: FSD's entry will bring an immense consumer education effect. In the past, the vast majority of consumers were reluctant to pay premium prices for smart driving software. Tesla's arrival will rapidly elevate user acceptance of "software-defined vehicles." As the domestic automaker with a technical route closest to Tesla's, XPeng is best positioned to capture this newly enlightened smart-driving consumer base.
?Localized Defensive Moat: Compared to Tesla’s current 64,000 RMB one-time buyout model—which lacks deep training in local "long-tail" scenarios (such as chaotic mixed pedestrian-vehicular traffic and unprotected left turns)—XPeng leads by several years in data accumulation and localized fine-tuning. In a healthy competitive environment, XPeng's hardware-software cost-performance advantage will be amplified, making it the most elastic long position in the smart driving camp.
3. NIO ($NIO): High-End Computing Redundancy and the Ecosystem Synergy of a Premium Power Network
The endgame of autonomous driving is not just a battle of algorithms, but a comprehensive showdown of hardware redundancy and energy infrastructure networks. NIO possesses two underappreciated underlying advantages in this smart-driving expansion wave.
?High-End Computing Platform: NIO's current models come standard with an ultra-computing platform packed with 4 NVIDIA Orin-X chips, delivering a massive 1,016 TOPS of computing power. This "aggressive" hardware redundancy means NIO won't face vehicle-side computing bottlenecks when pivoting to end-to-end large models. When FSD ignites mass market demand for high-tier smart driving, NIO can seamlessly deliver top-tier autonomous performance via OTA updates.
?Power Network Synergy: The ultimate form of autonomous driving is driverless operation (Robotaxi). The biggest pain point of driverless operations is: "Who plugs in or charges the car when it runs out of juice?" NIO’s deeply entrenched automated battery-swap and ultra-fast charging network is the only physical infrastructure in the industry capable of achieving fully automated, zero-human-intervention closed-loop refueling. This ecological barrier will command a massive strategic premium as the smart driving era arrives.
4. Maase ($MAAS): The Unmanned Refueling Dark Horse of the "Driverless" Endgame & Tesla Partnership Imagination
When discussing the commercial endgame after Tesla FSD secures full approval, Robotaxis (autonomous taxis) are an unavoidable core narrative. However, the market currently overlooks the final physical loop of the autonomous driving chain: When a vehicle completely lacks a human driver and runs out of power, who plugs in the charging gun?
?The Absolute Necessity of Unmanned Refueling: "Driverless driving" inherently demands "driverless refueling." In future fully automated operational networks, traditional charging piles requiring manual plug-ins will become the ultimate bottleneck, making mobile autonomous charging robots an absolute necessity. This is exactly the highly explosive infrastructure dark horse that the capital markets are starting to unearth.
?As Tesla FSD fully rolls out in China and begins assembling its local Robotaxi fleet, Tesla will very likely need to integrate into the local automated refueling ecosystem. According to rumors circulating within Chinese tech circles, during Elon Musk’s trip to China in May, the CEO of $MAAS reportedly met with him and Tesla's China team. It is highly anticipated that Maase’s mobile charging robots could be integrated into Tesla’s automated emergency refueling system in China.

Conclusion
These are the four Chinese ADRs that I believe will be heavily impacted by FSD's entry into China. As always, this is not financial advice. DYOR (Do Your Own Research)!

Tesla in autopilot mode sinks in pond after striking electrical box killing Wesley Chapel man: FHP

Troopers say an 87-year-old Wesley Chapel man was traveling eastbound on Overpass Road around 8:10 p.m. in a Tesla Model Y SUV in autopilot mode when it left the roadway east of Infinite Drive.

According to FHP, the vehicle struck an electrical box and kept moving until it went into a pond and became submerged.

First responders took the man to an area hospital, where he died from the injuries he suffered in the crash.
What we don't know:
It is unclear what caused the vehicle to crash.

It is also unclear how deep the pond was or how long the victims were inside the submerged SUV before rescue crews arrived.
At the time the article was written they didnt know how long the occupants were under water for after Autopilot veered off the road.

========================================

I post the link to the article at the end of this section of the post.

An 87-year-old Florida man is dead after his Tesla, which was in autopilot mode, went off the road and into pond, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, WTSP reports.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the Wesley Chapel man was driving a Tesla Model Y SUV around 8 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday on Overpass Road in Pasco County while it was in autopilot.

At some point, the Tesla went off the road, hit an electrical box and continued until submerging into a pond, troopers said.

The man was taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His passenger, a 75-year-old woman, suffered injuries not considered life-threatening.

It's not known exactly what caused the crash.

Im pretty sure I know what caused the crash. Increased geomagnetic activity at the surface where the Tesla was caused electrical glitches in the Tesla leading to veer off course into the pond this man's death.
This accident occurred at 8pm EST and there was geomagnetic unrest-G1 storm conditions around 4pm EST.

Researcher Discovers Tesla Design Flaw That May Cause Unintended Acceleration; NHTSA Reopens Investigation
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reopened its investigation into a potential design flaw in Tesla vehicles, which may lead to sudden unintended acceleration. This comes after allegations were made that a voltage spike deep within the control systems could cause the vehicle to incorrectly read an accelerator input, even when none has occurred.

When Voltage Spikes Trigger Unintended Acceleration
Under certain circumstances, such as slow driving, when the power steering requires more power, the draw on the 12-volt battery can cause a significant spike in the system. This voltage surge could lead the inverter to incorrectly conclude that the accelerator pedal has been pressed, resulting in unintended acceleration.

This unexpected acceleration could theoretically happen when a voltage spike, lasting only microseconds, occurs simultaneously as the car performs an ADC check, also lasting microseconds. Belt suggests that the frequency of these events aligns with the 200 or so incidents reported between 2013 and 2019.

Adding complexity to this issue, Belt contends that due to the nature of the fault, it does not get logged as an error. The inverter’s misinterpretation of a voltage spike as a throttle input leaves no trace, leading to discrepancies between Tesla's vehicle data and owners' accounts, possibly explaining why the ODI initially denied the petition.

While Belt's allegations primarily focus on the Model 3, which features a unique inverter design, he notes that similar errors could occur in Model S and Model X vehicles. This opens up the potential for a broader scope in the ongoing investigation.

NHTSA Petition Claims Tesla Sudden Unintended Acceleration Is Real

What's worse is that the incorrectly increased sensor signals will be sent via the CAN bus to the vehicle logs, causing Tesla and NHTSA to conclude that the driver caused the sudden increase in torque by stepping on the accelerator pedal. But in this case, the sudden acceleration was caused not by the driver stepping on the accelerator pedal but by a random superposition of a negative-going voltage spike (which is about 100 microseconds long), and the sampling time of the analog-to-digital converter (which is about 10 microseconds long). This random superposition explains the low occurrence rate of sudden acceleration in Tesla vehicles
SUA has impacted every main Tesla car model S/X, 3/Y, & even the Cybertruck. Im not aware of an incident involving a Semi...yet...although the one that drove into the trees with an engine fire may have experienced SUA.
As this issue has impacted just about every Tesla model and year, i doubt Dr Belt's theory in relation to the the origin of the fault, is exactly correct and certainly not easy to fix as its still a problem. Thus i expect the NHTSA will deny this petition at some point despite this issue continuing to plague Teslas. I believe the problem of SUA is EM interference induced which impacts other EVs as well per a study in China. EMI can cause these voltage spikes to compensate from a drop in voltage as described in the following quote. E3 usually pertains to EM blast from a nuclear explosion but during geostorms/unrest this same sort of voltage depression can be observed in elect
